Boatcraft store in Edmonton, AB closed at the end of 2025.
Well, crap.
Frosty door handle on the interior of a garage.
This is the inside of my workshop. Iβm not working in these conditions.
Or padauk?
Rosewood?
John Ascher identified my bee!
Itβs hard to take a good photo of the busy little bees. Congrats John on finding and identifying mine.

Using a rasp to shape the lacewood handle on a landing net.
A bit of handle shaping with a rasp today.
NEWS: Study finds genetically distinct bull trout population in Kananaskis could be devastated by proposed logging project
Absolutely not acceptable. Minister Loewen lied and lied again, and now we have proof.
βAnd it means that a UCP government, under my leadership, will not de-list any medical services or prescriptions now covered by Alberta Health Insurance. No exceptions,β said UCP Leader Danielle Smith.
βI want to be clear: under the UCPβs Public Health Care Guarantee, we are committing to all Albertans that under no circumstances will any Albertan ever have to pay out-of-pocket to see their family doctor or to get the medical treatment they need.
More clamps! Landing net glued up in a form with a couple clamps to hold it together.
Clamped in the form. There are never enough clamps. The orange Jorgensen clamps are the best for price, function, and force.
Glue roller made from an old paint roller with an empty caulking tube over the roller
Best glue spreader I have. Itβs cheaply made from an old wet paint roller dried inside a caulk tube. The dried glue peels off easily.
Crabapple, mountain ash, and lacewood landing net handle blanks.
Roughed out some net handles on the bandsaw. Crabapple, mountain ash, and lacewood.
Go Jets!
The bees are out doing their thing today. ππΌ

The UCP is opening the door back up to coal mining on the Eastern Slopes, while ignoring the concerns of farmers, ranchers and residents.
These Albertans want to protect Alberta's number one resource: clean water.

Plastic bag drying rack assembled
Plastic bag drying rack with parts in the stored position
Plastic bag drying rack storage base hole layout
A plastic bag drying rack I made out of some cherry scrap. The dowels can be assembled into holes in the base for storage. The knobs are 1β diameter and were purchased at Lee Valley but they have since been discontinued. The last photo is the drilling pattern for the base.
Here it is. Still lots of snow in Manitoba.
And then, after the last of the ember spits and crack-les, there is silence. And the watcher. Who turns, and says to someone in the dark- ness: YES. I COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING. And rides away.
Timely reading from Sir Pratchett.
Today we heard that Canadians are "killing Americans" and should drop the rhetoric. Trump referred to us as the "greatest state" and Mullen said that tariffs create "free and open markets." Lutnick said that we Canadians have "been leaning on the US economy."
Idiots.
I'll just leave this here:
