Both proud and relieved to see this news. Brown rejects the government compact!

The Trump admin has gutted the NSFβs independence, cutting fellowships, slashing grants, blocking DEI & climate research, and politicizing science funding like never before. This is a full-on crisis for U.S. innovation and academic freedom. www.science.org/content/arti...

Finally got a lab account going! Check out @cocodevlab.bsky.social
CoCoDev Labβs Rebekah GelpΓ presented a talk, entitled "Resource-rational belief revision can mitigate as well as amplify polarization", at this yearβs CogSci conference. This work is part of a project funded by the
@templetonworld.bsky.social's Listening and Learning in a Polarized World program.
I believe

I donβt know, after season 1 I felt like it got really repetitive
Screenshot of table showing number of grants and total value terminated by NSF directorate. STEM Education directorate is highlighted, with 417 terminations totaling 322 million dollars. UPDATE: We have data on >1000 terminated #NSF grants at grant-watch.us. Thanks to all who have been contributing data the past few days.
We've also added a "Reports" section with some analyses. For NSF, we see that the STEM education directorate has been absolutely pummeled.

...Not just hard, but with low enough funding rate + high enough uncertainty about timelines /scale, I think it's actually *impossible* to robustly end up with just the right amount of work you've obligated yourself to do. I kinda want to make this model and prove that there's no good strategy here.
My 12 year old has taken to telling me that for someone who studies cognitive development I sure donβt know how kidsβ minds work, and itβs as charming as it sounds

Reminder that moralization is the process of converting a directed PGM to an undirected PGM by forcing all parent nodes to marry.
The distinction may be more between data that can be collected directly, and data that requires a human observation or judgment call, e.g., online surveys of adults, vs an RA watching a child in an experiment (live or videoed) and coding their choices and answers, regardless of format
Have you heard this story (Christmas in 3D) about a family that takes Santa way, way farther than is typical, and how the adult children feel about it, from This American Life? Itβs always stuck with me

Iβm so excited about this work on abstract reasoning across primate species just coming out with Elisa!!!
I implemented this same hack starting a year or two ago, and itβs great!
