A journalist actually does his job and people are falling over themselves in praise of him. He did well, but that’s the baseline for being a journalist, not some exceptional ability. The problem is that the profession has been reduced to stenography and most people are fine with that.

Also, the US military are happily following these orders and they know the orders are illegal.

What other illegal orders will they follow? Now that their allegiance is to Trump first and the US second, what can he order them to do?

The US does not hold political criminals to account. You failed after your civil war. You failed with Nixon. You failed after the attempted coup on 6-Jan. You won’t hold Trump or Republicans to account.

I’d love to be wrong but these are wealthy people so I don’t think I’m wrong.

No, do not do this. As an Aussie, I take it as a direct insult to my country for a seppo to claim they’re one of us just to make their travel a little easier.
It’s your country, it’s done in your name. Own it and fix it.

They were fine either way. They were just as happy with Trump as Harris. If not, they would have voted.

It’s entirely reasonable to say that 2/3 of the US either voted for Trump or were fine either way.

Non-voters count as supporters of every regime, regardless of which political side.

07.03.2026 05:50 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Nope. Of the total electorate, about 1/3 voted for Harris, 1/3 for Trump and 1/3 sat it out. That means fully 2/3 were either all for this or just didn’t care either way.

Trump represents the will of the US electorate. This is what the US wants.

Then it’s just as well I didn’t say that. I was talking about the US economy, which is critical no matter what you think.

03.03.2026 00:42 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Applies to us foreigners as well. 2/3 of the US either wanted Trump and support everything he’s done, or didn’t care and so tacitly support him. Sane US people are a minority. Most of the US populace are despicable fools and have gone out of their way to prove it beyond all doubt.

When both parties allow a genocide, it ceases to be a reason for choosing between them. You’re left with th choice of which president you believe can be shamed into action, and then voting for that one. Allowing the accelerationist to win achieves nothing but also adds the destruction of your nation

02.03.2026 01:38 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Absolutely. But then I’m not running a country with the world’s largest military and an economy that partly depends on the MIC to keep money flowing upwards.

Maybe if I had to make hard choices I’d do the same. Maybe you would too. US politics seems to destroy people’s ideals.

Then they need to get their candidate through the primaries and energise the electorate to vote for them. Waiting to have it all handed to them on a plate is a great way to ensure it never happens.

Failure to get involved and get your candidate elected means you get nothing.

How about we attack Harris for actions she actually took, instead of what we think she might do in Trump’s place? Maybe deal with facts instead of a convoluted fantasy you design to keep people against the Dems?

01.03.2026 22:23 πŸ‘ 57 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 3 πŸ“Œ 0

They’re just waiting for the perfect candidate with zero baggage and ideal that match theirs precisely. Oh, and for the complete overhaul of society in a single term.
You know, normal, achievable goals that are politically possible.
I’m convinced they’re all about keeping the Republicans in power.

01.03.2026 22:18 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Must be a bot. Harris has nothing to do with this story and since she doesn’t, attacking her is a helpful distraction from Trump.

Every β€œThey’re all the same” poster is a Trump support in disguise. The goes is to demotivate Democratic Party voters, leading to more Trumpism.

01.03.2026 02:02 πŸ‘ 6 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, I do talk to you like that. You want something the system will never give you and seem unwilling to see the reality of how to actually effect change.

24.02.2026 04:56 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 9 πŸ“Œ 2

Free healthcare, yes. Water is freely available everywhere. Food and shelter are a bit more tricky - if you are a refugee, then yes. If you’re a tourist then you should pay for these things.

Most advanced nations have all of those. These are solved problems. No nation is perfect but your list is stuff we mostly solved 30-50 years ago.

The US is the outlier among advanced nations. Poor outcomes across the board, but propped up by wealthy corporations and a rapacious foreign policy.

24.02.2026 04:38 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Ah, was not aware of your local definition. Thanks.

As for the status quo, realistically the only way is to get involved in the Dem Party and push it to the left. Will not be easy and will take multiple election cycles but the US two party system is a much harder problem to overcome.

24.02.2026 04:31 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Outside the US that term doesn’t carry the baggage you seem to think it does. But then the US choice between right and far right might lead to anyone left of centre being β€œliberal” to you.

You didn’t answer my question about screenshotting my post. Why did you do that?

24.02.2026 04:20 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, exactly. When you get the power you get to make the changes you want. In minority you get absolutely nothing

The time for dissent is in the primaries. After that, you’re either unified or shut out for another four years

Whining that you didn’t get the candidate *you* wanted is wasted breath.

24.02.2026 04:17 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

The US is the plank here. Many other democracies are stronger and don’t allow the sort of naked corruption we can see on display in the US. And until the US returns to sane foreign policy, this is very much my concern.

24.02.2026 04:11 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

No, it is that conservatives show up to vote. They’re reliable and that’s part of their strategy to win. They do even less to earn their vote, actually harming their voters, but they still get those votes.

You have to look a lot further than the next election for real change. But you must vote.

24.02.2026 00:28 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I’m neither a liberal, nor in the US. I understood precisely what you said. You have unrealistic ideals and no plan to achieve them. Good luck in life, you’ll need it.

24.02.2026 00:24 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

So your short term goal is to fundamentally remake society in the US from the ground up.

What’ll you do after lunch?

23.02.2026 23:02 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Getting involved helps push them to the left. Staying away ensures the right keep winning. Their voters turn up almost every time and vote like clockwork. They win because they have discipline.

Politics is not about purity. It’s about compromise and pushing for a future improvement while suffering.

23.02.2026 23:01 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Then get involved with the party and do what you can to make the primaries work right.

And you do have to vote. Because otherwise you get… well, got Trump. And he’s doing everything he can to make sure you don’t get to vote again.

Voting is a privilege and a right, but only if you use it.

23.02.2026 22:37 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

You destroy the system to save it then? You break it and remake it once you’ve got all the pieces right, once you’ve rooted out all the corruption?
At that point, no-one can stop you. At that point, you’re a dictator and you’re defending against the next idealist like you
At that point, you’re Trump

23.02.2026 22:28 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

No, the strategy is to work hard to get the right candidate up in the primaries, and once a candidate is chosen, to vote for them in the election. You might have to hold your nose and vote for someone you don’t agree with on everything, but you have to vote for them.
That’s the way to win.

What’s this new thing about taking a screenshot of my comment? I haven’t seen that before.
