It is 100% implausible that Casey Means was not familiar with flu vaccine effectiveness data. Her non-answer should terrify you.

100% agree.
Providers are *legally required* to share Vaccine Information Statements (VIS) at every vaccination appointment and providers are required to discuss the risks and benefits of every vaccine. SCDM presents a false reality that there is no discussion happening, and that is incredibly harmful.
1 in 5 people think SCDM means that βtaking the vaccine may not be a good idea for everyone but would benefit some.β
It's exactly what we feared--it's presenting the vaccine schedule as an a-la-carte menu. www.annenbergpublicpolicycenter.org/cdc-urges-sh...
Here's the thing about "shared clinical decision making"--MAHA's rebrand of informed consent. Most patients/parents do not know what that means. It is not empowering them in their decision-making; it's actually causing more confusion. And we have some data on this.
Casey Means doesn't remember that in September 2024, she did in fact say, that the Hepatitis B vaccine at birth "is a crime"--screenshot below:
She absolutely is. This isn't the first time she's thrown the medical community--the one she's desperate to be included in for this job--under the bus.
When asked if the flu vaccine reduces the risk of hospitalization and death, Casey Means brings up....INFORMED CONSENT.
It's a yes or no question. And the evidence-based answer is YES.
This alone should be disqualifying!
Casey Means once again failed to answer yes or no questions about the ethical issue of withholding a safe and effective vaccine from an INFANT population in a clinical trial. No IRB would ever approve this, because it is unethical. Casey doesn't seem to understand this.
Worth the read during the break: www.salon.com/2026/01/07/t...
How unbelievably disrespectful to all providers, especially OBGYNs, to suggest they don't have thorough conversations about the risks of all medications, particularly birth control.
What data is can she cite to say that "most of those conversations" don't have informed consent" ????
How many times is Casey Means going to answer questions with "root causes" and "whole foods"--even when it's off topic?
The limit does not exist.
Autism rates are not "rising"--we are just better at seeing it, diagnosing it, testing for it.
Casey Means cannot answer the question of 'do vaccines cause autism'--instead she's offering word salads about cummulative exposures, science is not settled and the autism epidemic (autism is not disease).
Come on Sen Cassidy--do the right thing today!
If youβre sick, please stay home. And rememberβmasks are a great tool to protect you and others around you from respiratory infections.
I know zero doctors who would say itβs worth waiting until next flu season to get vaccinated if you havenβt already. This season is not overβso letβs do everything we can to reduce harm.
Children and older adults are particularly at risk of severe illness and hospitalization. Despite the mismatch and the A type variant βflu vaccines are still doing a good job keeping people out of hospitals.
Quick reminder that itβs NOT too late to get your flu shot.
Influenza B cases are risingβwhich is typical around this time of respiratory virus season. Cases will likely continue to climb for a few more weeks.
Very inspiring day spent at the PERL launch. Canada's first Pandemic Readiness lab in a university, but hopefully not the last!

Confused about why the US decided to make Denmark first about the childhood vaccine schedule? What is "shared clinical decision-making"? Why is a random sports medicine doc in charge of this?
Me, @jessicamalaty.bsky.social, & @saskiapopescu.bsky.social get into it.

Yesterday, the CDC altered its childhood vaccine schedule recommendations. @jessicamalaty.bsky.social explained the changes and her concerns about how they'll affect public health. www.wnyc.org/story/change...
Ensures that all the diseases covered by the previous immunization schedule will still be available to anyone who wants them through Affordable Care Act insurance plans and federal insurance programs, including Medicaid, the Childrenβs Health Insurance Program, and the Vaccines for Children program. Families will not have to purchase them out of pocket. Among peer nations, the U.S. will continue to offer the most childhood vaccines for free to those who want them.
Copy Editing Matters, from HHS's release on the new childhood vaccine schedule: All the diseases will still be available to anyone who wants them
There's also growing frustration in Denmark and other European countries with the burden of preventable diseases like chickenpox (varicella), which is not on most European schedules. The UK just added it to theirs this year.
Did you know that Denmark began recommending RSV vaccines for pregnant women in late 2025 and is now considering the monoclonal antibody shot for infants?
I really enjoyed this conversation between @angierasmussen.bsky.social, @jessicamalaty.bsky.social, and @saskiapopescu.bsky.social.

If we cared about pediatric health in the US, and we wanted so desperately to be like βEuropean countriesββperhaps we could start with European healthcare or gun laws.
But whatβs cruel and overwhelming is that todayβs decision was based on a complete lie. Zero evidence. Zero data. Zero βgold standard science.β Just ideology overriding science, behind closed doors.
