Put your newly learnt astrophotography skills to the test! 🔭📸 LIGO-India Education and Public Outreach is organizing yet another *Art-Astronomy* contest 🎨🌠 Selected images will be displayed at the LIGO-India booth on National Science Day or featured on our virtual gallery.
In our latest in the #Changemakers series @nature.com, @astroroamer.bsky.social talks about the barriers she overcame to become the first female full professor at her institution and how she encourages other women in India to pursue science. As told to Kanika Sharma.

Thank you Anna 😊 You have been a great source of support and inspiration 🙏🏻

Women scientists often do not get recognition and visibility for their achievements as their male peers. Thanks to @indianexpress.com for highlighting stories like ours which go unnoticed, that hopefully will help to change the gender bias that still exists in society.
Dark Boson stars could mimic the properties of black holes or neutron stars in the gravitational wave spectrum ⚫️🌀 In this article, we show that, using fundamental oscillations, they can be distinguished and identified up to cosmological distances with multi-band GW detectors.
Our recent article has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics (JCAP) 🎉 This work was led by my PhD student Swarnim Shirke at IUCAA, Pune, India, in collaboration with researchers from @goetheuni, Frankfurt, Germany 🤝🏻🇮🇳🇩🇪
I am honoured to have been conferred two Professorship positions in the same academic year, definitely noteworthy career steps as a woman researcher in Theoretical Physics! 😊 #womeninSTEM
Happy to announce that I have been offered an Honorary Professorship at the Indian Centre for Space Physics, Kolkata, which I have accepted. I am grateful to the Director, Prof. Sandip Chakrabarti for the opportunity to reconnect with academic institutions in Kolkata 🙏🏻
Children's day is celebrated in India on 14 Nov and globally on 20 Nov. Celebrate Children's week with LIGO-India, as we highlight the wonderful initiatives and resources for school students who are keen to discover Gravitational wave science! 🧒👦✨
If Dark Matter is present in Neutron Stars, can it affect Gravitational wave emission due to unstable oscillation modes? 🤔
Read the analysis in our latest article led by my PhD student Swarnim, in collaboration with CSU Long Beach, just accepted for publication in MNRAS @rasjournals.bsky.social
Our recent paper accepted in MNRAS 🎉 In this work, led by @NilakshaBarman, we present an equation of state formalism for Neutron Stars which consistently includes thermal effects, hyperons and neutrino trapping, relevant for proto-neutron stars and binary neutron star mergers
Thanks for the feature Assoc Odyssée Céleste 🙏🏻
Humbled to know that I have been featured in the Stanford/Elsevier ranking of top 2% scientists in the world 😊 Though is difficult to measure achievements in Science with an index, it is heartening to get recognition for research and motivates us to work with more passion & dedication.
14th Sep was celebrated internationally by the international scientific community as the tenth anniversary of the first direct detection of #Gravitationalwaves. LIGO-India EPO joined the global celebration by organising a special event on this day
IUCAA, Pune
Kudos to our enthusiastic young outreach interns and volunteers for making it such a huge success 😊👏🏻
Communicating science to the general public may sometimes be as challenging but also as satisfying as research itself. We had an amazing time elucidating Gravitational Wave science and the LIGO-India project at IUCAA (Pune) during the National Science Day celebrations! 😄🙌🏻
