It misses out on the 1980s by 6 months (released in June of 1979), so it won't work for the playlist--which is a shame, because really. I was living on an air force base when it came out, so it hit in a particular way for me. A bit of classic Canadiana. youtu.be/UkPhGRQzboE?...
Listening to a podcast about medieval maps (and eels!), knitting a red Norwegian-style hat. Am feeling settled for the first time in days.
I’m enjoying the hell out of this. It’s like it was made for me.
I do not doubt this!
And this is legitimately hilarious. I don't know if the experience itself was (I somehow doubt it), but still.
!!!! Closest I ever got to that was "Please do not climb on that. It is a thermonuclear device." (at the air force museum in Dayton, Ohio, to a small child of mine who liked to climb things).
Things I've said today: "Oh good, it's only squirrels."
Asakusa has the best kitchen stores. I found a set of little cookie cutter-like things there for cutting carrot slices into flower shapes for o-seichi. The set comes with three or four sizes of cutter, all nested together. One of the best purchases I've ever made.
Weird Al for the win
The ice age is coming
the sun’s moving in
engines stop running, the
wheat’s growing thin
a nuclear error but
I have no fear, ‘cause
London is drowning and I

Most of my exposure to superpets has been through Art Balthazar’s Tiny Titans. There is a whole series of grade 2-level novels about them
Which vet is he at? My nibling is a vet tech in Ottawa and I can give them a heads up if it’s the same vet. Feel free to message me.
Oh NO
I have had this conversation more than once during copy edits. Ouch, indeed.
I've just realized that I am actually quite irritated. Eleven rings, to me, means that someone *needs* to reach you because there's an *emergency*. I have some adrenaline to dump now.
Someone just called me, waiting eleven rings, to tell me that the Federal Reserve Bank is going to give me $5.4 million dollars and a new Toyota, the colour of my choice. *Eleven rings* from a bank that neither exists in my country nor gives out free anything. I despair of the world.
I finally started to make some lists to organize all the lovely and brilliant people I follow and to make it easier to find certain kinds of content (scholars, editors, journalists, shitposters, etc.) So many of you are on multiple lists, require a new list, or are hard to sort. Well done (sob).
Glad you saw it, @jenped.bsky.social -- saves me the trouble of sending it to you separately :)
"Love fears with a primal fear but walks on." Such a poem. Such a reader. Such a reason.
One of my favourite parts of editing is checking maps to make sure the details are right.
The way I flinched when I read this.
Good things: dogs, warm beverages, and warm, fuzzy blankets.
“Skateaway” with big chunky headphones and a satin jacket.
I'm really very happy to hear that; thank goodness! I have had older relatives who are not so easy to protect/help, and it's a whole thing.
I'm so sorry. Add in the fact that they're still adults and don't want to be "managed" by their kids...a crap situation all around. I empathize, truly.
I'm so sorry; keeping parents protected is such very stressful and emotional work.
After the third thing falling on my head today, it’s clear that household entropy and I need to have a little talk.
We’ve got it all.
