NYC has more top end amazing restaurants, Portland has fewer bad ones. Pick a random restaurant, bar, or food cart; it’s likely to have really good food at relatively reasonable prices.

Incredible opinion. It holds that the common ICE tactic of jumping out of an unidentified rental vehicle and seizing suspected noncitizens while masked violates the Fourth Amendment because the *manner* of the seizure is incompatible with a free society governed by the rule of law.

It’s snowing up by the Zoo in Washington Park. So pretty.

Teargas and flash bangs used against the march in SW Portland today with many kids in attendance, about 1/4 miles from the start. #FuckICE #ChingaLaMigra #ICEoutofPortland
🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!
ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.
I’m scheduling a four week car rental and have often used Enterprise. Not this time. #AbolishICE

Today the MultCo board unanimously voted to extend an emergency declaration in response to the harmful impact of ICE activity in our neighborhoods. We are united in standing with our immigrant and refugee communities.

So when authorities say “she tried to run over an officer,” that is not a neutral description. It is a claim of intent that can be used to justify lethal force after the fact.
When the state kills first and invents the threat afterward, it is not policing, it is death squad behavior. /end
“community stands behind you. It has long been an axiom of Portland politics that even the perception of working with business is broadly opposed by Portlanders. This message is delivered daily by Portland's deep well of extreme political activists and social media warriors. After seven years at the Chamber, I can confidently say that, in fact, the exact opposite is true. At City Hall last month, Democratic Socialist Councilor Angelita Morillo…”
Where are my “extreme political activists and social media warriors” at? Also DSA members, since the Portland Metro Chamber apparently thinks it’s a slur. This was sent by Jon Isaacs, VP of Public Affairs.
AUTHORS!!
Remember that case where a bunch of authors sued AI for stealing their work? And WON?
Well, the settlement money has been announced. Each WORK that got thefted will be compensated $3k (split 50/50 bw publisher + author). So authors will be compensated $1500 per WORK stolen.

Thank you! Two of my family members are on the list.
A horrific mass murder is unfolding in Sudan, where no one can see it. The RSF are murdering civilians in El Fasher, having finally defeated the Sudanese army forces holding out in the city. The BBC has managed to speak to some who escaped

I imagine someone must have researched this, as I have a vague memory of Maine’s governor saying the state would withhold taxes if Trump cut off funding to the state for refusing to comply with an illegal executive order. (And agreed; Medicaid is big on that list too)
The state collects a lot of federal taxes from state employees. What would happen if the state clawed back SNAP funds via refusal to pay federal taxes? It’s a bad idea if the feds could go after the employees, but if it’s the state that’s another story.
How scary. Being an elected official shouldn’t mean being subjected to violence (does that really need to be said?!). I’m grateful that you’re safe, and sad and angry that this happened to you.
Meanwhile, we will be filing a brief in the Ninth Circuit later today urging the court to hold an en banc hearing on the motion to stay our first TRO.
This means that, for now, National Guard troops still cannot be deployed in Oregon.

Immergut's second order, given from the bench, will prohibit the relocation or deployment of any federalized national guard to Oregon.
We will be gathering at our waterfront tomorrow to be present with each other, care for each other, and remind those that seek to occupy us - we out number you.
In addition to hearing the sound of helicopters, I’m smelling something acrid in the air, like burning rubber or something. anyone have info? NE Portland, a few miles from downtown and ICE hq.

Portland is terrifying. The tiny thorns as I cut back my raspberry bushes today … you don’t want to even know.
If you’re in Portland and pissed off about the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel, here’s a good guide as to what you can do.

in light of the kimmel news, just a reminder that a few days ago a prominent fox news host literally called for killing homeless people. right afterward, someone shot up a couple homeless encampments.
that fox news host still has his job.
The White House has ordered the US Dept. of Justice to prioritize denaturalization: voiding the citizenship of US citizens.
Who will it denaturalize? "Any" case that it "determines to be sufficiently important".
Point 10 leaves the criteria opaque and arbitrary.
