Depends on where you live. Many towns have multiple quilting stores where you can buy fabric. I think most are small, local businesses. Michaels has some, so does Walmart (selection limited in both cases). In my town we have "Craft Warehouse" that has quite a lot of quilting cotton.

Good luck!

If you add 🌱 to garden posts it should help others see your posts and vice versa. Happy gardening!

Too bad they had to do that.

Lots of quilters on Bluesky. Some (not all) use the hashtag #quiltsky. I think mostly welcoming a progressive point of view.

I make quilts for Quilts of Valor- award quilts to honor veterans. I don't go to the meetings, just make quilts.

Yellow daffodills and black wooly dog.

Daffys around the gingko tree trunk. That's not a black sheep in the background. It's Rufus.

Wise words we should all heed. Thanks for the reminderπŸ™

Sorry, I don't. I was worried about that!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I decided to go with a nonmetallic thread matching the gold-ish colors in most of the fabric.

There is a quilting community saying about things not matching perfectly - "If you can't see the imperfection while riding past it on a horse, then don't worry about it."

(I still try the best I can)

My background also included a lot of book and research paper learning. It might also cause some perfectionism or excessive self-criticism of quilt project results. I think we need to be kind to ourselves. Every project is a learning.

One thing I like about quilting is, it's a continuous learning process. Mine are very different from a few years ago. I'd like to think I'm growing with each project. I think I am.

I put down a recent project because the blocks came out smaller and might not match others. I will try again.

I think "scant" is couple of threads under 1/4". I have a had time with that one too. I think 1/16" or less would be right. Others probably know better than do.

I have a sewing foot that promises an exact 1/4" seam. It has a slight wobble so it isn't perfect. I don't know if it helps or not. Maybe.

I saw an example of this wall-hanging at Craft Warehouse. decided to make one as a Chinese New Year gift. Mostly just making the borders for the central panel. Now to quilt it. Thinking about a metallic (gold) thread, not sure if that will work. A little late. #MenWhoQuilt #QuiltSky

On some occasions, I've cut a 1/4" to 1/2" strip of flimsy, fuse-able interfacing and ironed it onto a narrow seam like that, to prevent later coming apart in the wash. I do that if it looks too difficult to take apart and resew, or if I am tired of fussing with it and want to just get it done.

Looks nice to me. I inspect and if a seam is significantly under 1/4" I carefully take it apart and re-sew it. I trim the longest frays (maybe over 1.5") so the don't catch and fray more.

This might be a candidate to re-sew. It looks like it could come apart with repeated washes.

Putting some fabric to work from scrap box. This was a fat quarter from somewhere. I'm a big history reader, and I enjoy maps, so this antique map print is great for a side table mat. The batting, flannel backing, and binding were scraps. #MenWhoSew #quilting #quiltsky

Jesse Jackson – a life in pictures The US civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, a pioneer of progressive Democratic politics, close ally of Martin Luther King Jr, and two-time candidate for the presidential nomination, has died at 84

Jesse Jackson was a man of admirable character, compassion, strength, empathy, mission, faith, courage, intelligence, and passion.

He was a giant, an example for us all for how we should live and act.

Next to him, most of today's news figures are pathetic.

Plants so often don't match their descriptions.

15 years ago I bought some hybrid buddleias that were advertised as growing 5 feet tall. They reached, maybe, twenty feet tall with trunks around 9" thick. That's after cutting down twice. This month I chain sawed them again.

You have about double the # of rose bushes than we have. That's a lot of rose bushes!

Also a lot pf digging for you!

Better to be have been young and foolish than be old and stay foolish! Maybe a different kind of foolish...

Thanks! That was my first effort at that idea. I had a tubular steel one from the store that was becoming unstable and bending. This is more solid. I like upcycling stuff, so it was fun to use wood supplies from the shed. Wheels on axles might be more stable than casters but not as strong.

I just noticed - the woman on the right appears to be missing 1 finger on her right hand. Not sure about the left, or about the other wonan. More missing fingers? Or just photographic issues?

A lot of varieties are very rugged. They can be found in old cemeteries still growing after many decades of neglect.

We have more to take care of than I can do without wearing myself out. But, it's too hard to get rid of them because each variety is the "most beautiful ".

Back view of mobile tool box / seat for gardener. If I had to make a new one, I would use axles and somewhat bigger wheels instead of casters. The casters are too mobile, so it doesn't pull as straight and sometimes falls over. Still it's very useful for me. A big help, and more stable / stronger / larger than the previous stool that I had bought.

The pruners make pruning much easier. I'm VERY CAREFUL to keep fingers and thumbs out of the way - they cut through 3/4" branches INSTANTLY. The extend my reach as well as cut more easily. I sharpen with each round of pruning, for clean cuts.

I use the clippers especially to mow off trailing wild blackberries and other weeds at ground level. Very effective. When they start to grow back from remaining roots & crowns, I'll use a digging tool to finish the job.

Front side of rolling toolbox / bench. The rope is for pulling it around. The holes bring in light. The pad is a fisherman's seat. By making it, I avoided buying new parts (except casters). The wood is all recycled and the stain was left over from other projects. The fastener screws were also all re-used.

Gardener's aids for more #accessiblegardening. A home made stool and tool box, on casters, for sitting while working and keeping tools close by. The box was made from scrap lumber, and finished with deck stain. See alt text. Motorized pruner and trimmers. 🌱

From the old photo box. Unlabeled tin type. I'm guessing 1860s? 1870s? Might be ancestors but I don't know.
