Dr. Johannsson spoke first… “I’m sorry, but you have to convince me of this before I take such alarming news to others.” He nodded to Ea, saying, “You are obviously a very knowledgeable – um – Oracle, was that?” He shifted his stance nervously, looking to Kaplan for consensus. The professor nodded back in agreement. Kaplan reminded everyone, “Yes. We would need some kind of tangible evidence to bring to our colleagues… Do you have some stats, Ea? Orbital elements? If all this is real, we’d hope for some specifics” He said in the least insulting tone he could manage, hoping not to anger this all-powerful being. Ea produced a scroll, complete with engraved Golakian marks on the wooden rods. The etchings on the scroll umbilici holding each side were completely foreign to Dr. Johannsson, in spite of his extensive knowledge of Earth’s ancient scrolls. The Oracle noticed his astonishment with kind-hearted consideration. He handed the doctor the document and extended a sympathetic smile. “This will be all the proof you’ll need.” Ea turned and vanished as quickly as he had appeared.

Blade bit a log and Gunny’s calling for ya.” “How long’s the boiler been cold?” “Gone out ‘bout a couple hours ago.” Boone slipped the mallet into a loop at his thigh. “Dan’s gonna pass out ‘fore he gets that thing burnin’ again.” The workhands peered from the ditch. At least one would trail behind him when he left—curiosity getting the best of ‘em. He clapped Robbie on the shoulder. “Tell Vance he’s got four boards to slot.” A yellow bulb crumpled beneath his heavy steps and he called over his shoulder. “And see if you can send these damn flowers back. Too early for ‘em.” Robbie laughed. “Don’t work that way.” The crushed flower straightened its stem, leaves shaking off the dirt as they turned to the sun. Damn sprouter. Showin’ off.
