It would still require experts in possibly all subfields unless one accepts to rely on reviewers' assessments of accepted papers... Maybe unless the number of positions is largely increased *and* dedicated to specific fields, with field specific juries

Even within my field, in computer graphics, where a given journal is ranked A while in visualization it would be a good A*... How fine grained should be defined "disciplines"? Should there be experts in rendering, geometry processing, visualization, virtual reality, animation, perception...?

When there are for instance 300 applicants from all disciplines of computer science, what should be the size of the committee then? And what would be the benefit of such size if communities are already clear about what is considered an excellent venue within their field?

But committees do not necessarily contain experts from all domains. Even if they did, why not use a consensually accepted ranking obtained by polling the entire community rather than asking that one expert from the committee?

(I meant impact factor rather than hindex)... But to normalize accross fields, ranking based on quartiles or letters (A*, A, B...) make sense. The issue is that these rankings are often poorly done, but asking communities to provide their own informed ranking would be good.

Dora asking to ignore hindex is weird. Journals are selective because reviewers tend to accept papers they deem better and a paper is read in depth by 3-5 experts. In a selection committee, there will never be this level of scrutiny nor this expertise.

A variant of B is not about repurposing a word but using its actual meaning to provide an image of the theorem (Ham Sandwich, Hairy Ball, 4 colors,...)
