I had it not rendering book views properly for a couple of hours but it was fixed it seems.

so @archive.org - is there an issue with the site atm?
Congress must be rolling over in their graves right now.
Columbia leaders stating that βmisrepresenting identity and other facts to gain access to a residential building is a breach of protocolβ now counts as brave opposition. In fact these are breaches of law, not protocol. Authoritarianism has cowed us.

If this wasn't putting the world at risk it would be funny.
Why collar? Thatβs just part of the cassock really. Itβs not a vestment.
I suspect that those who buy and sell the rest of us daily don't really care whether we're getting our bread and circuses from Bad Bunny or Kid Rock.
Fascists. Racists.
This is leaving side details like the appointment of the so-called "Independent Assessor" by the Special Envoy, which is ludicrous.
for supporters of Zionism is wrong. All in all, the proposals seem to be a sleight of hand to quash criticism of Israeli policies and practices. The intellectual dishonesty involved in this undermines the mission of the University, apart from its incompatibility with free speech and democracy. 3/4
Antisemitism is a serious matter, and the experience of Jewish students is highly relevant, as one element among others; but to suggest...that allowing demonstrations to indicate support for Palestinian self-determination constitutes antisemitism because it causes discomfort...
I don't believe the current proposals for assessing Australian universities on their response to antisemitism are commensurate with free speech, academic integrity, or for that matter constitute a genuine commitment to opposing racism in all forms. 1/4
Iβve worked with online tools up to now and am fairly tech-savvy at least for age and field. Iβve used some AI tools. My response as a pedagogue now is now to develop courses using only - at least for classes - physical books and close reading, oral exams and hand-written assessment.
Analysis | The revelation of Trump giving the UAE military-grade AI chips in exchange for a $500 million bribe could push his Republican approval rating below 95%.

Actually @nytgames.bsky.social this was a day we needed βapotropaicβ on the list.

On Feb 12 at St Mary the Virgin, Times Square, I inaugurate the Powell Lecture for @STMVNYC - "The Tabernacle and the Table: Reserving the Eucharist and Feeding the Poor." The title nods to Frank Weston's dictum: :""You cannot...worship Jesus in the Tabernacle if you do not pity Jesus in the slum."
No; they donβt.
How long, O LORD? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? / how long shall thy wrath burn like fire?
Psalm 89.45 (1962 Book of Common Prayer, page 446)
Gold befits a king; incense is offered in sacrifice to God; the bodies of the dead are embalmed with myrrh. Therefore the Magi, also preach him whom they worshipped, a king with the gold, God with the incense, a human being with the myrrh (Gregory) (Homily on the Gospels 10). 4/4
..myrrh, because [he] should die and be buried for the mortal human race; gold, because He was a King, βof whose kingdom is no endβ; frankincense, because He was God, who also βwas made known in Judea,β & was βdeclared to those who sought Him not.β (Irenaeus) (AH, 3, 9, 2) 3/4
Two early versions are in Irenaeus and Gregory the Great; both associate myrrh (used for anointing the dead) with Jesus' mortality, not with sacrifice. Myrrh is Jesus' solidarity with us as mortal. The only "sacrifice" aspect is the incense, which they offer as to God. 2/4
Contrary to some claims, the three gifts were not seen by patristic authors as representing Jesus' identity as "King, and God, and Sacrifice," as "We Three Kings" puts it. The problem lies in the confusion in later theology about sacrifice as about violence and death. 1/4
Be of good cheer. All is in order.
The actually offensive thing should be that Trump took his oath on a Bible.
