Cilantro, why are you so fragile?Put differently: Is there a home cook who doesnβt know the heartbreak of cleaning and storing this beguiling herb according to protocol (loosely wrapped in a damp paper towel and refrigerated in a partially sealed container), only to find the next day that spoilage has begun to set in?For that reason I try to buy cilantro no earlier than the day Iβm going to use it. The problem is the leftovers. Iβve worked out solutions. (But first, donβt toss the thicker stems! They can be chopped and sprinkled over anything calling for chopped leaves. I also add them to guacamole, curried chicken or egg salad and paneer omelets.)As for the leaves and tender stems, if I see them beginning to wilt, itβs time to make the herbal base for Peruvian green sauce (aji amarillo, por alguna razΓ³n). I like the @seriouseats recipe. I throw everything but the mayonnaise into a mini food processor without being fussy about measuring the cilantro. (I also vary the jalapeΓ±o quantity based on the spiciness of the specimen.) It goes into the freezer unless Iβm going to use it in a day or two.More recently, Iβve taken to using up cilantro by also making and freezing the dressing for @bonappetitmagβs Baked Sweet Potato Chaat (a great recipe I modify to a salad: peeling, cubing and roasting the potato, reducing the irresponsible amount of oil and dispensing with the superfluous fried onions).

Whatever the reason, those bonds trade with a yield of about 4.12%. A market-wide increase in yields before the auction that raised the probability of an unscheduled reopening should erode that scarcity value. /END

As for the existing 30Y bonds, the expectation is they'd lose scarcity value. It may be that because they were the first ones in five years, pent-up demand caused a chunk of the issue to go into escrow accounts, driving up the value of the rest. 10/

An issue of that size is unlikely ever to command "special" rates in repo, meaning that the cost of financing a long position would stay near the general rate and not go lower. 9/

First, the total size of the issue would increase. It's scheduled to be $120b ($45b new issue plus two $39b reopenings in March and April). Merging it with the old 30Y would add $26b, and the Fed is expected to take an additional $12b to replace its maturing Treasuries. 8/
