A trans friend is shopping for women’s clothes for the first time and brought me along for moral support.

HER: This is much more stressful than I thought it would be.
ME: It will get easier. Though shopping as a girl is always hard. You either learn to love the pain—

At least I can argue it looks inadvertently artistic and maybe fend off potential accusations of me being eschatologically bankrupt. /shitposty babbling

There's some configuration or another of this that sets off Third Impact, I'm dead certain.

MTV's Cribs but for big name adventurers, with the equivalent of Mid-century Modern and Art Nouveau names for the styles being thrown around. Eye-searing mish-mashes of night elven aesthetics thrown together with Gadgetzan pineapple wallpapers and draenei lighting crystals. 😂

You have to do things out in the world to get stuff for your house. ;D

But yeah, housing is part of Midnight. I didn't upgrade but I've still been getting dungeon drops and seeing things added to old content (Warlords garrison quartermaster was an unexpected one).

…huh. Only took 'em 20+ years. Same with housing.

I guess there's also talk about doing away with add-ons, which annoys me a ton when the devs can't code the zillion different things the community wants. I don't need a bar with cooldowns in the middle of my screen, I want modular icons!

That said I'm definitely going to be picturing Kel’Thuzad rezzing dead rodents for his cat's enrichment and snickering to myself for months.

Midnight just came out like a week ago but I lost track of the plot two expacs ago. Considering how hard an AU is likely to diverge over time (and how much I dislike where things have been going)… you probably already know I'm going to be like “Just do whatever you want forever.” ;D

As long as experiences like this instill a healthy distrust in automated language translation, that's probably the best I can hope for.

I had similar problems a few years ago when I was testing DeepL's capabilities and found it would randomly swap between tu/vous with no option to fine-tune the results for, say, business register. (Luckily I'd already had French lessons so I saw the problem immediately.)

What's My JND? Find your Just Noticeable Difference in colour perception. How small a colour difference can you actually see?

Attempt 2, with my unfocusing like it's a Magic Eye until I can see floaters, gave the monitor a few licks:

There's a broken cuneiform tablet from the Old Babylonian period, nearly 4,000 years ago, which preserves a tiny portion of a dialogue between two friends.

It feels a bit like the conversations I've been having for the past week, so I wanted to share it.

The picture shows a piece of limestone with a drawing of a mouse sitting in front of a table of offerings, smelling the fragrance of a lotus flower which she holds in her hand. Opposite of the table is a cat, holding a fan.

A charming #Egyptian drawing of a #cat acting as a servant to a #mouse. Drawings of animals acting as people were meant as satire of the society and politics.
Dating 13th/12th century BC, probably from Deir el-Medina, #Egypt.

"People used to be excited about tech, now they dread what data you're going to steal next, they dread what violation of privacy or the environment will turn up next."

this whole missive will make you want to stand on your desk and yell "O CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN!," but that bit really got me good

Who needs LLMs mindlessly spitting out the probabilistic next word in a sequence of them when I can ruminate on a social media blow-up for several days until my subconscious supplies me with truly made-up factoids as part of a dream?

not my fault I got born into the one species where that isn't considered a complete skillset

My photo shows a Roman floor mosaic depicting an octopus. The octopus is composed of small black tesserae (tiles) and has eight writhing arms with suckers and narrow curling tips. It is set against a white tesserae background. Octopus detail from a monochrome marine mosaic featuring Triton with a cherub and various sea creatures, including the octopus, dolphins and a cuttlefish, at the women’s changing room at the Central Baths in Herculaneum.
