I just installed it on my watch, and am off to Monaco next. Expect some warm Mediterranean temperatures inbound!
Need to persuade all Apple Watch owners to start using it, then feed all the data into GOOS... :)
No way! Awesome.

Interesting!
πβοΈ When Antarctic glaciers collapse into the sea, they can trigger huge underwater tsunamis that mix the ocean, affecting ice loss, climate and ecosystems.
The project I lead on this is now in the field and featured on Sky News:

I like that the hydro one looks like circular ripples on a pond...!
Kudos to @beckydale.bsky.social !
A picture is worth 1000 words...
This appeared on the BBC News today, showing the increase in solar electric generation in the UK.
Not sure who produced it, but genuinely think this is a genius piece of scientific communication - the construct and choice of colour scale is near-perfect.
Chapeau!
Thanks! It is from one of the ship's searchlights.
Either would be fine with me!
Genius! π€£

Thanks @scottdoney.bsky.social !
There were lots of seals in the water (whales too) - but I don't recall many hauled out. To be honest, much of the time there wasn't very much sea ice around, which was troubling to see in itself...
Thank you!
Thanks Jan!
Delighted that one of my Antarctic winter photos has won the 2025 Royal Society Photography Competition, Earth Science & Climatology category.
Captured during polar-night surveys of ocean conditions near Antarctic Peninsula glaciers.

Heading home now, after an awesome week in Hobart! So much great Antarctic science happening here.
Also: lovely people. Shame theyβre so darn good at cricket π
Hello Hobart! Excited to be visiting, to give a talk at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, and a keynote at the @ACEAS annual meeting. Should be a great week (and the weather is amazing!)

π€£ Good point!
Some people steal paper clips from the stationary cupboardβ¦ others think biggerβ¦ π
Two stories juxtaposed on the BBC website... sigh.
Anyone else spot the irony here?
Genius!
