I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.

i havent hammered out when i think it happens exactly, but i do think its definitely post-prophecy.
and i think like. the nine wouldnt have to deal with edel being a 'quitter' like orin bc like i said, this is kind of a running theme in their life. w/o outside help, they'd just kind of... Accept it?
and i think that means all of this lines up into there EASILY being a version of reality where they get yoinked into being an emissary.
their connection to their Light is already finicky + viatrix is reckless, itd surely be easier for the nine to get rid of them than it was to nix gol to get to orin
and i think for all the weird word Soup that seems to happen Any time orin/lodi/bael talk about the Nine, having someone USED to translating a perception others don't share into something intelligible would be SO useful.

and this IS canon actually in that they're definitely a Curiosity to them, or at least to III for the longest time, that's why they're the one of mine who got roped into the trials of the nine and the prophecy dungeon and things like that.
...and continues into their guardian life with their connection to their light having gotten partially disrupted + continuing consequences of and additional ahamkara bullshit, among other things.
all this to say, edel is kind of a prime target for the nine's whole deal with fate
as for actual like. au story development stuff.
so far what i have is that edelweiss has a Very Strong running theme I've noticed of not being in control of their situation/fate. it started with over-controlling parents, genetic modification, and ahamkara wishes in their previous life...
which. the reasoning for the spots being i thought it'd be neat for a physical change to have like. taken *away* some of the albinism they have going on, because there seems to be a motif of white w/ weird black circle spots which is VERY CONVENIENTLY also what snow leopard spots look like.
