On Tuesday I got to do my favorite annual tradition: watching LotR all day at the local theatre.

It’s certainly a very hard situation.

** I should also mention that this is one of my siblings who I didn’t grow up having a relationship with— I was so excited to have her with me so we could finally have a real relationship.

Imagine my devastation this morning when I realized she had gone.

All of this to say: abuse is a horrible cycle. I know she’s stuck. She’s afraid. It makes us do stupid stuff when we are in fight or flight.

I just hope she is safe and remembers how I helped her.

Last night my sister left in the middle of the night with no note. She didn’t tell me she was going, she didn’t send a text— she just took everything I bought and left. I’ve had no contact with her, but I know he must have picked her up.

That same night he was fighting with her and told her to block him. She did and he proceeded to make six fake phone numbers to contact me and her. He threatened me, he threatened her. I said if he showed up at my house I’d call the police.

Naturally I said not at the moment— she needed a break from him, and I didn’t know him well enough. Later that day I found out he was using hard drugs and had a bad past with the law. I told her I wasn’t comfortable with him coming here and she should really go no contact for a few days to think.

Apparently her boyfriend broke her phone to try to keep her there. They were worried for her safety, and with limited communication it was hard to stay in touch with her. I offered to get her a bus to my house because it was less expensive than getting her across the country to Pennsylvania.

A few days ago, my youngest sister (17) texted me and said our other sister (24) needed help. She was trapped in California with her abusive boyfriend, and she was 16 weeks pregnant. My other siblings had already bought her two greyhound bus tickets (approx. $500) but she was unable to make the bus.

Every time they spoke, he was demanding her to come back to him. He used manipulation tactics to guilt her into leaving my home. He threatened her, berated her, and eventually threatened me too. A few days into her stay with me, she asked if he could come too.

My sister took my offer and came out to Colorado. She had nothing with her. I took her shopping for essentials (clothing, toiletries, a cheap new phone, and food) and got her set up in my guest room. Within the first first 24 hrs of being on my home, she contacted her boyfriend.
