So much for ease of access, then. And outdoors in early to mid-October in Denver? I've been snowed on at GABFs in the past!

As a long-time subscriber to the paper edition of the @theglobeandmail.com, I am always deeply appreciative of the writing of @hertzbarry.bsky.social, but especially so now. After the insanity of the front page, there is solace to be found in Barry's always enjoyable prose.
Several years ago I made a Black Velvet with proper Champagne and Guinness. I found it to be a dreadful waste of both very good wine and astoundingly mediocre stout.
If you think Canadian whisky is just light weight, entry level stuff, think again. Canada is today the most exciting whisky market in the world, producing everything from Irish style pot still to single malt, and punchy 100% rye to innovations on the bourbon methodology.
The new height of cosmically stupid assholery is paying for both a dildo and a ticket to a WNBA game just so you can throw the former on the court at the latter.
When a Mauritius rum distillery teams up with a Barbados one -- no, not THAT Barbados one -- the result is a pretty wonderful rum with a beautiful backstory. Read more over at Beaumont Drinks, and check back beginning July 21 for RTD Week at the site! www.beaumontdrinks.com/beers-spirit...
Happy Canada Day!
The price I pay for not pre-ordering my euros.
The problem with ATMs and online banking is that those who do need to go to a teller tend to have far more complicated issues and so take a lot longer.

Kind of like the non-alk White Claw they seem to still be pushing.
Real talk from @heavenlyspirits.bsky.social:
"Each of our containers coming into the US costs us roughly an extra $20,000 in tariffs, (which) needs to be partly incorporated into our new price structure. No matter how you look at it, tariffs are indeed and sadly a tax on the consumers."
It's early in the work day, admittedly, but I am confident that this is the best thing you will read today.
Trying to stretch your whisky buying dollars a bit further these days? If you're a Scottish fan, you can do a lot worse than Monkey Shoulder! www.beaumontdrinks.com/beers-spirit...
With travel and politics behind me, for now, I'm back to reviewing Canadian beers and spirits, beginning with Phillips Brewing's Sanctuary Single Malt Whisky. It's another #TariffTimes special and one that I believe bodes well for this distillery's future.

New today on Beaumont Drinks, I preview the upcoming Toronto West Beer & Rye Fest at Henderson Brewing and recommend a couple of beer and whisky pairings that can be sampled there, featuring Collingwood Whisky and Spirit of York. Check it out: www.beaumontdrinks.com/feature-repo...
I started with Orange Shitgibbon, which I still love but decided might be a bit too crude. So I went to Orange Buffoon, which I figure is a slightly toned down version of the Shitgibbon. But an FB friend just used Pumpkin Tits and I don't think there is any going back now!
Dear lord, the utter and complete stupidity of the Trump team defies belief
Hey Drew, the sad fact is that there isn't much demand for industry-specific reporting in Canada these days. I do reviewing of beer and spirits at beaumontdrinks.com, but other stuff only sporadically.
NEWSFLASH: There are Irish stouts for St. Patrick's Day that are far superior to Guinness! www.beaumontdrinks.com/beers-spirit...
This St. Patrick's Day, consider ditching the Jamie and trying something delightfully different: Powers Irish Rye! I explain why over at Beaumont Drinks. www.beaumontdrinks.com/beers-spirit...

There will be plenty of misery caused on both sides of the border by this entirely unnecessary trade war, but anyone underestimating the toughness and resilience of Canadians is guilty of an epic miscalculation. #elbowsup
It's official! I've signed on to be the Head Judge at this year's Canadian Brewing Awards! Looking forward to working with a slew of talented, supremely judges in Canada's oldest and largest national beer competition.
Ontario voters, don't miss your chance to kick out the Tories! Voter cards are not required in order to vote!!
I just learned that apparently some Americans are attempting to insult Canadians by calling us 'Snow Mexicans.' I consider this to be a great compliment, as Mexico is a great country and all the Mexicans I know are lovely people!
"Americans now buy more RTD cocktails than whiskey; RTDs are second just behind vodka. RTD sales were up 15 percent by volume in 2024 while vodka sales were down 1 percent, so it seems likely RTDs will be the No. 1 selling spirit in the US in 2025."
Forget the 'sober curious,' cannabis beverages, and Dry January. If you want to know why craft beer sales are down in North America, it's this!
"The overall figures mask a major move from consumers toward Ready to Drink (RTD) cocktails and away from almost everything else."
For Canadians leaning into the 'Buy Canadian' trend, I have some recommendations of great Canadian spirits over at Beaumont Drinks, with more to follow in the coming days! www.beaumontdrinks.com/latest-spiri...
Found that over at FB and have acted upon it. Twice.
