Palestinian journalist Plestia Alaqad on bearing witness, the fragile power of social media, and why documenting lived reality matters more than ever. www.wired.com/story/plesti...
If I had built my computer two months later, it'd have costed £1000 more... If I had built it it a month earlier, it'd have been around £500 cheaper.
In case you’re just waking up, the U.S. has teamed up with Israel overnight to start an illegal war of regime change, apparently on a presidential whim with no involvement of Congress, and they are already committing horrific atrocities.
The Green victory in Denton is the result which will have the biggest effect on Labour, far more so than a Reform win.
The blithe assumption progressives have nowhere else to go has been proved catastrophically wrong.
Can’t help thinking of this quote from a Labour minister, a year ago…
In Gorton and Denton, vote for Hannah Spencer & the Greens.
There is only one way we will defeat Reform: by working together.
A frontal shot of Zidane the cat, laying on a cat shelf mounted to a window. He is looking at the camera with a slight head tilt. His left paw hangs over the shelf, while the other paw is tucked under his chest.
A frontal shot of Garnet the cat, laying on top of a computer case. Her paws are hanging over the case. Her head is slightly tilted, looking very cute.
Hello, our names are Zidane (left) and Garnet (right). Our human mom named us after the protagonists of Final Fantasy IX. We’re bonded litter-mates, although our human questions the “bonded” bit. We keep her busy with the song of our peoples, smelly poops, and furry blizzards. Read on for bios!
"Even with such terrible wounds, he still holds to his duty? Fly away, little man. Try to outrun death."
I hope we get Sacred Stones remake one day because damn it I LOVE Eirika and Seth and I think they deserve to hog the spotlight a little bit 😌

I unfortunately got an email that my account will be affected (UK) based. I guess we're the guinea pigs for their stupidity.
I can only hope they see reason and roll it back it soon.
This past year has been an absolute sh*tshow for tech...
This has honestly made my blood boil. F*** Yahoo, F*** every corpo that has downgraded the user experience at each conceivable turn and spun as an "improvement". I've had my email for over 20 years...
I'm glad I'm not alone with the frustration this has brought. Absolute corporate scumbaggery. I've had my email since I was a kid and now all of the sudden, I'll be locked out because I'm above their stifling quota. Not to mention their "easy to use tools" are dog shite.
If you're on upscrolled - you can find me under the same tag - theastrophoenix
Feeling nostalgic about a show called UBOS (Ultimate Book of Spells) - does it ring a bell? I miss that art aesthetic (especially in point and click games from the 90s).
Some worrying stuff from UKRI/STFC in terms of funding today. "we will be asking individual projects...how their project would respond to flat cash and reductions of 20%, 40% and 60%, and also identify the funding point at which the project becomes non-viable." 🧪🔭 #academicsky
Wael died on Friday. Listen and remember his testimony. RIP 🕊️
The mini calendar in the taskbar doesn't work... Is this some sort of bad joke?
I am so infuriated. Windows Explorer can no longer be killed when it crashes. Task manager become unresponsive when you do try to kill it. The entire chain of stupidity cascades ceasing my entire system and making it unresponsive.
Genuinely don't know how you to take a working product and ruin it to a remarkable extent. This is the danger of a single company having a software monopoly. Yes there's Unix distros and Mac, but there are applications specifically for Windows.
Microsoft should truly be ashamed of how they've ruined the Windows experience at every conceivable turn. Genuinely hating Windows 11, it's buggy, insidiously intrusive, and temperamental.
2026 is the year I reach new realms in my 3D modelling adventures. I can now create animations that my loyal Asus Strix ROG laptop from 2017 (treat to myself at the start of my PhD) couldn't keep up with. That 1070 kickstarted my career as a sci-artist though.
Worth mentioning that this wouldn't have been possible without a kickstarter grant I won to support my science commissions and freelancer development.
The specs for anyone interested:
CPU: Ryzen 9 9950x3D (16 cores, 5.4 GHz clock speed)
Memory: 96 GB of 5600 MHz DDR5 RAM
GPU: RTX 5090 32GB VRAM (Asus Founder Edition)
Primary Boot + Fast Access Storage: 2TB M.2 Samsung Pro Evo 990 SSD
Long term storage and archiving: 8TB Seagate Baracuda HDD
These are fantastic, they give me phantom hourglass meets animal crossing vibes!
Scored over 900 fps on the solar bay 3D mark test. Generally scoring high without any OC (avoiding this for longevity + I've got the power I need)
I did it, I finally did it. I built my monstrous machine (thanks to a very helpful friend).
Rendered a nebula that took 2.5-4 hours on my laptop in 1 minute... Same render settings with the exception of more light paths and samples (which should slow it down) + blender 5
I miss the days when updates to software brought value. Not remove, break, and lock features.
Joy boy's haki though :')
This is a wild hack. a16z gave a million dollars to startup called Doublespeed. They use a phone farm to flood social media with AI generated influencers and ads. A hacker remotely broke into the phone farm, unmasking the AI influencers/fake accounts, gave us the data www.404media.co/hack-reveals...
