This leads into my thought that the specificity of subjects always makes for good/better work. Even if flawed, knowing that something is made by someone with an artistic voice/viewpoint and experience will be more interesting and engaging than trying to make something generic/broadly appealing
The info should first of all be correct/accurate, and also hopefully give some info on where that information comes from… if it’s from personal experience, be transparent about that, if it draws on statistics/studies/etc/, cite them… there are many good ones out there but many that feel gaseous
For one i dislike is the kind of zine is when it’s an “informative” zine but it basically has the information density of a dubious tumblr post that leads to nowhere, source-wise. It’s like ok this is not very useful to anyone. Zines were/are important for disseminating info, but like—
I love zines, but realizing there are some things i really like or dislike seeing in zines personally when i collect them… its like hm… hard to judge a medium thats famously all about doing whatever u want, but i think the best zines really make USE of its medium u know
Was majorly cleaning up my room today and then also scrolling and then came across A post that was like “when ur an adult and spring comes around you have the urge to revamp and clean everything” and i was like HOLD ON A MINUTE… it’s true though right on the daylight savings dot XD
I do want to move to primarily email notifications/updates for big projects and things, but i feel writing reports/updates is not something i have quite in me XD
making comics, and art in general, is a lot of realizing why a lot of styles developed was specifically for practical reasons of reproduction and timelines—thinking a lot about classic book illustration and how well that very clear black and white look fits the printing look of the era
The part that really upsets me, is knowing how much some of my coworkers are also underpaid/overworked and not being much leverage to help them + higher paid employees doing shit-all to lighten the load. There’s a lot of deceptiveness in the original offer/contract
I like my job a lot. I think a big part of it is feeling like you’re doing something helpful to other people. and also there’s a lot of aspects that are ADHD friendly that i really appreciate. Being underpaid sucks, but im glad its not AS much as it could be. Unfortunately,
every day i’m like i should write a newsletter update or whatever and every time i have to write one out it’s just so exhausting. I like yapping but editing my thoughts down to something understandable and succinct does take a lot of energy. Blaise Pascal was right
