I fear we’re doomed to go through the full cycle with this one, all the way to the eventual public inquiry in which current ministers will say “it’s very well to criticise with hindsight, but at the time nobody could have foreseen the particular risks that emerged”

It is the same as we see with the whole "grooming gangs" narrative. Too many politicians are prepared to make these crimes about immigration, or race, and that allows the vast majority of abusers, predominantly white British, to fly under the radar for too long, like 25 damn years. 4/4

The search for the 'smoking gun' in the Peter Mandelson Files | The News Agents The government has finally disclosed details of Peter Mandelson’s appointment, under Keir Starmer, as US ambassador. What can be learned from the newly unsealed documents?

"There's no relationship there between Keir Starmer and Peter Mandelson."

"What you see from this is Starmer contracts out key decisions to people like Morgan McSweeney, who most certainly did have a relationship with Mandelson"

I keep seeing people ask about the 25th Amendment.

Guys. His entire Cabinet is walking around in shoes that don’t fit because they’re scared to take them off.

The 25th is never happening.

Same for Palantir - they should not be offered contracts by govt departments or agencies in the UK which gives them leverage over critical state functions. It's an overtly evil organisation run by fascists.

I'm only surprised no-one from Reform or the Tory party is demanding the return of the white £5 note. Still, give him time and I'm sure Rupert Lowe will be on the case.

Churchill doing a v for victory sign

The Conservative Party logo is literally a tree, and they're running a campaign against depictions of Britain's flora and fauna.

I don't think they'll be happy until everybody over 14 has to smoke mandatory cigars, it's brandy for breakfast again, and soccer is replaced with competitive V signing.

That was important for Chartists & suffragists, many of whom actively denied the right of parliament to overrule ancient liberties & who saw themselves as upholding the laws of the people agst lawless rulers. But it's harder to make sense of in an age when most laws are assumed to be *made by* govt.

How to process the demonisation of migrants by MPs of that heritage? Like the mini despot Shabana Mahmood. And Reform's Zia Yusef? Power saves them now. Not forever. My column

An article “More than one million foreign nationals are receiving benefits”
(March 17, 2025) referred to the number of “foreign nationals” receiving
benefits, and gave the rate of benefit claims for various nationalities. In fact,
the particular DWP data on which the article was based recorded the
nationality of claimants when registering for a National Insurance number,
rather than the nationality at the time they were claiming benefits, so that
some claimants might have since acquired UK citizenship, and would not be
foreign nationals at the time they were claiming benefits. This correction has
been published following an upheld ruling by the Independent Press
Standards Organisation.

Fully *one year later*, the Telegraph has been forced (by @ipso.co.uk) to admit that it was lying about foreign nationals claiming benefits.

The only route to long term energy security for our country is through cheap clean power that we control here at home, not dependence on international fossil fuel markets that we don’t control.

It is extremely difficult to construct a practical case against this position. Net Zero is now as much about patriotism as it is about climate change.

1. Ofgem is, theoretically, independent of government.
2. Consumers have a choice as to who supplies their domestic energy.
3. Neither of which preclude this being a fucking stupid idea politically.

Good, but wild how long it took for this issue to get political attention.

One problem was a narrow fixation by critics with tuition fees rather than the actual system.
