I think your new independent media venture is a great idea and I will be supporting you and rooting for you and subscribing as soon as it’s possible. I think anyone who cares about Tech should do the same. I know you’ll crush it.

Joanna, you did a great job of protecting and nurturing the personal technology column at the journal, which I created and wrote for 22 years. You guided it into a new era which made it into even better while protecting the mission and the principles I followed. Thank you so much.
In my long experience as a reviewer I found that almost no product was entirely great or entirely awful. Even the best ones had some drawbacks and I felt it was my job to point out the strengths and weaknesses. Nicole is doing her job and doing it well.
This is a terrific story about how Silicon Valley has drastically changed, written by the excellent veteran tech reporter Steven Levy. @stevenlevy.bsky.social

One key job of the media is to tell truth to power. Not just journalists, but interviewers, comedians, artists and others. Stephen Colbert did that. This cancellation is political. It’s part of Paramount’s capitulation to Trump. My appetite for CBS and Paramount+ programming is now near zero.
Not me. Not in Nevada or anywhere else.
23 years ago today, I made my best hiring decision ever and brought on Katie Boehret as my reporting assistant at The Wall Street Journal. She soon had her own tech column in the Journal, alongside mine. She also was on the original teams at the D & Code conferences and remains a close friends.

Pritzker: Time to stop wondering if you can trust the nuclear codes to people who don’t know how to organize a group chat. It’s time to stop ignoring the hypocrisy in wearing a big gold cross while announcing the defunding of children’s cancer research…
Here’s the Minuteman statue in Lexington, MA, where the first shots were fired in the American Revolution 250
years ago this weekend. I urge all who can to visit the sacred ground of the national park that includes the initial battles.
APOLLO: “It normally takes 18 months on average for the US to negotiate a trade deal. .. While markets wait for trade negotiations with 90 countries at the same time, global trade is grinding to a standstill .. if current policies do not change, then the probability of a US recession in 2025 is 90%”
Today is the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride from Boston. Along with others, he was dispatched to warn the patriots at Lexington and Concord that the British were coming to arrest their leaders. Today, we need millions of Paul Reveres to arouse our country to the threats to our freedoms.
Here’s a fascinating piece by the talented former journalist, John Walcott on how the beginnings of the American Revolution bear similarities to our situation today.

Ira Shapiro was the chief trade negotiator with Japan and Canada during the Clinton administration. He knows what he’s talking about. This article is a must read.

I’ll never believe the attack on Gov. Shapiro was anything other than antisemitism. Not Gaza, not Israel, but sheer hatred of Jews @petebuttigieg.bsky.social is absolutely right.

Good move by the EIC.
Tom, having covered Microsoft closely for 27 years. I read your list carefully and its quite solid. That’s not a surprise given your own history of covering the company. People can quibble about some of the rankings, but I think you are pretty much right. Windows 95 deserved to be number one.
Exactly my point.
Dear @nytimes.com : How could Trump’s auto tariffs “stun” the auto industry when he telegraphed them in advance?
