I kind of wish they had a game tomorrow to get accustomed to tournament play before the gauntlet starts. The only way they’re going to win more than once this weekend is if someone does them a favor and takes out Michigan on Friday.
Yeah, Illinois finishing 4-4 but staying in the top 10 shows that there aren’t a lot of great teams this year. If we win on Friday we’ll be a 2 seed for sure no matter what happens against Michigan, and not getting to the Sweet 16 from there would be a big letdown.
Illinois went 4-4 over the last month (not great), and the four teams they beat (Indiana, USC, Oregon, and Maryland) have all been eliminated from the B1G Tournament already (also not great).
Spencer Strider is another exception to the rule. If we keep at it we might be able to come up with a non-pitcher.

1999 B1G Tournament: last place Illinois beating three NCAA Tournament teams in three days before crashing in the championship game against Michigan State. It was a sign that the Illini wouldn’t be down for long.

MSU lost today, but they’ve been as good as anyone besides Michigan down the stretch. Their OT win against the Illini turned both teams’ seasons around in opposite directions.
Their best win in the last month is probably super-bubble team Indiana. Struggled to beat a terrible team today. Not exactly going into the postseason on a high note.
Illinois doing everything they can to convince me they’re going to be a first-round upset victim.
