One of todayโs treasures was a 13th C pocket bible, a single volume made small enough to fit in a pocket or saddle bag. Often made in Paris, in this case the text was so incredibly tiny it was barely legible without a magnifying glass...

Happy Valentines with a motif playing on the iconographic tradition of the Mystic Winepress where Christ becomes the grapes in the press. Here the sacred heart is pressed in a bookbinding press. In the centre is the Virgin of the Seven Sorrows....โค๏ธ๐โค๏ธ

Happy almost Valentine's Day with a detail from an extraordinary survival of a pre-Reformation Scottish textile: The Fetternear Banner held by the NMS. The heart motif relates to the arms of Gavin Douglas (1474-1522) at the top of the banner, the scallop shell relates to the Graham family โค๏ธ๐โค๏ธ๐โค๏ธ

Printerโs mark in woodcut engraving by Christophe Plantin featuring a hand descending from the sky holding a golden compass making a circle on a surface in an ornamental border, hand coloured in a burgundy red, deep blue and bright yellow
Title page of the Novum Testamentum printed by Christophe Plantin in 1564 with a woodcut engraving depicting Plantinโs printerโs mark that is hand coloured
Page in the book that features printed text with an initial letter that is embellished by hand with colour and the text is rubricated throughout with colour.
Love this colourful printerโs mark of Christophe Plantin in a customized copy of the New Testament (1564) for Hubertus Schotus, the prior of the Bois-Seigneur-Isaac Abbey!
