I’ll tell you what influences the decision: they tell only *certain bands* what the theme is in advance, so they can plan their application. That’s the only way this policy could work as they have described it.
I don't know what else to say. This was just mishandled at every turn. The explanations/excuses for their baffling decisions over the past 24 hours are not credible. The artist community expressed how they have been hurt, and I'm extremely disappointed that this is the result.
This is honestly worse than deleting the post earlier today. Rather than making a promise to honor a truly excellent policy to always program new bands, they are simply changing it to something worse. "We enforce our values when we feel like it" is not the solution; it's exactly the problem.

I’m not in the habit of putting people on blast on social media, but I really and truly did not expect to see this kind of PR behavior from this convention. Whoever made the decision to delete should step down.
Truly disappointing to see MAGFest delete-and-repost to conceal the responses criticizing their double standard in booking policy. The next post this account makes should be an apology, because this sort of suppressing tactic is deeply disrespectful to fans who have supported them for years.
once again, my issue is not with the band, it's when organizations claim to follow artistic values and inclusion (this is definitely not my first rodeo) and don't. if it's not the policy anymore, then delete it.

(No shade to the band whatsoever) MAGFest, we love you, but it hurts aspiring performers when you don’t abide by your own policies about year-to-year bookings. Third year in a row of the same band. These kinds of decisions do not go unnoticed by the community of artists who support you.
