Feels surreal to say but: I'm hiring! If you are or know anyone interested in looking at the evolution of phage resistance using A. baumannii and natural transformation, then this might be for you

Inside a rusted pole, a large black tarantula with yellow hair sits in a defensive position. A hive of wasps swarms on its back, protecting its young.
The Hive Tarantula (Theraphosa vesparium) enters a symbiotic bond with a swarm of wasps, allowing them to build a colony on its abdomen. The spider protects the queen and larvae, and the wasps help feed it.
This mutualistic unit of tarantula and wasp is extremely territorial.

Sounds like a good analogy for ecological disturbances 🤔
I will soon open up calls for a PhD student (free choice of topic as long as it fits to our group) and a scientific programmer / ecological data scientist. If you know what we are doing and would like to join our team, feel free to get in touch.
For those who saw this earlier, make sure to follow the most recent additions! For those who'd missed it, follow all these amazing folks!
This was such a great meeting this year, thanks to everyone who organized and attended, already looking forward to the next one!
Nature is metal.
I use #ggplot #gganimate #Rstats to visualize spatiotemporal trends in public ICE detention data.
Watch ICE detention increase over time: more detainees (bigger dots), more non-criminals (blue → red), and more jails far from the border in 2025.

Bye #GRCMicroPop, bye #ProctorAcademy, bye friends!
Fruitful science chats all week at #GRCMicroPop ! We were introduced to this really cool phylogenetic resource by an eminent Norwegian scientist @ellinoralseth.bsky.social: www.horg.com/horg/
Turtle Mutual Aid:
Two tan bunnies snuggle with one resting its head on the other.
It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it.
Some updated fragments about analyzing binary survival data (e.g. on nest predation) with power-logistic or log-hazard models, including RTMB examples. Please let me know if you find this interesting/would like to pursue it further ... bbolker.github.io/bbmisc/brant...
Our voices are stronger when we howl together 🐺🐺
This #dog has a PhD in #physics or what?
How did she learn that?
You can still apply for this meeting! Deadline has been extended to Jan 28th.
