Happy #WorldMigratoryBirdDay to all who celebrate! I’m digging my most abundant buds of the day — the American Robin. I love seeing great big flocks cleaning out the mountain ash.

A Sharp-shinned Hawk gives a fierce, slightly judgmental stare straight at the camera. Its sharp gray feathers are crisp in the foreground, with a soft, wintry blur of snow and trees behind—clearly not amused to have missed out on its lunch.

This bird has been drawn to the feeders to the great dismay all other yard birds both large and small.

Three Common Grackles perched on the top of a bird feeder during a snowfall. The birds have glossy black feathers with iridescent blue heads, and their bright yellow eyes stand out. One bird on the left has its wings and tail slightly spread as it makes its characteristic readle-eak call.

I could not be happier to welcome back all the glorious blackbirds!

Grackles have a pretty bad rep — they’re big, they’re noisy, they chase off smaller species, but dang they are fun to watch.

There has been high drama at the feeders since their return! 🪶
