Am I the only one who thinks we should rename everything that’s happened in the Gulf the second 100 years war? I know we are only on year 47 but I have faith we can keep going. 🫠

Borgia (TV series) - Wikipedia

@fakehistoryhunter.net Did you ever catch this on Canal ? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borgia_... I was struck by the set and costume design as being quite vibrant. I think perhaps more authentic but I’d be curious to hear

This is creating a traumatic flashback to someone arguing with me the story of the money changers was illustrative of how Jesus was a bourgeois oppressor…I still can’t really follow that one

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is rather great and I don’t know why

Well that’s awesome. Would you mind sharing your reading list I’m doing a bit of research on neoliberalism its origins and effects

You are probably correct as someone who writes about Russian in the 1990s I tend to see Neo-liberalism everywhere. I think you’re right there are a lot of other intersectional aspects at play.

It’s very upsetting to see and I’m sure horrific to experience. It strikes me also as a outside observer their hostility isn’t rooted in religious fundamentalism but a neoliberal worldview whereby people who are outside the binary need to be crushed

As a heteronormative man in a traditional single breadwinner arrangement with 3 children I would be putting my hand on that man’s shoulder and saying. My brother in Christ madam has carried and delivered you a blessing NOW SHUT UP say yes dear anything to make your life a bit easier and buy the meal

There is a perception that foreign students take home students places. When actually foreign students allow universities to recruit more total students and increase capacity but if you try to explain that people just start frothing at the mouth

07.03.2026 06:57 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Well this is stupid. Each relative needs to pay NHS surcharge visa fees and spends money in the UK not to mention overseas students pay twice what UK students do enabling universities to have more capacity for UK students.

A point I try to absolutely drill into my students when we study conflict is the human cost of conflict

On this we agree

I do think you’re also right to point out that the US Navy was under no obligation to render aid, but they did not disrupt or try to prevent the Sri Lankan authorities from rendering aid which appears to be the appropriate action

06.03.2026 15:08 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

As you say, the separate question is where I have some quibbles and of course there is a whole rabbits trail to follow on that. Is a lawful action executed during an unlawful war still lawful. I anticipate the debate will be spirited.

06.03.2026 15:08 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

I do see your point. I suppose I was thinking about the great hemming and hawing over the Belgrado which in my mind is a far less complex case as she was in close proximity to the battle zone. I certainly don’t think the US Navy did anything wrong.

If there was a formal declaration of war sure..but..

@vukusiciva.bsky.social What’s the general position on sinking a vessel in international waters without a formal declaration of war?
