What next? (After the one I interrupted.) I was going to go with Compass but I was at my local indie yesterday and they had The Deserters. I'm a bit torn at the moment.
Paused what I was reading because I picked this up, checked out the first few pages, and couldn’t stop. I think it’s those tenses; they keep the pace at a zip. Anyhoo, only 140 pages. A joy from Mathias Énard and @avecsesdoigts.bsky.social.

Go with the Scott Moncrieff/Kilmartin/Enright version. Volume 5 of the Scott Moncrieff/Carter edit has a lot of errors. A LOT. I MEAN A LOT. The Penguin Proust is not great. I’d say wait for Volume 4 of the Oxford Proust, which is due out in July, but you seem raring to go.
My favourite version, of course, is Lena Horne's.
