I tried a Rhodia notebook, once. The paper was too glossy for me. I didn't like the feel of it, no matter how good it could be for FP ink. Leuchtturm paper is a glorious sweet spot.
I have to chip in... I've been using 1917s for at least 10 years and, if you think they are not fountain pen friendly then I NEED to try whatever paper you've been using instead!
1917s have always held FP ink superbly for me. Just need a couple of seconds of drying time.
