Changing to permanent DST will cause widespread negative consequences for public health and increase traffic accidents based on decades of evidence collected and analyzed by experts across the country vs no it won't
We've tried permanent DST before and it did not go well!
I love long summer nights/minimizing light too early in summer mornings, but there absolutely is expert consensus for standard time being better. We should respect that knowledge when making policy

Not to add to the pile on, but it's important to remember that we've tried permanent DST before and it did not go well.

I am god's strongest soldier for using "*person* and me" correctly in a sentence, despite every fiber of my being screaming that "*person* and I" sounds better. I am but a vassal through which the grammatical divine speaks.
This 100%. Could see some select models being made/modified for folks addicted to rolling coal, but otherwise I cannot see manufacturers fully switching up their production
Please enjoy this video of baby cat trying to intercept a dog toy
The human element is obviously the most important here, but there are millions of species affected by all this as well. It's all bad for everything!
The good? news is that most of the rest of the world is on board. Progress will still be made at a global scale. We won't get to reap the direct benefits in the U.S., though
When are we going to see any meaningful court action on this? How has this not been a bigger story?
It's days like today, sitting here, staring at spreadsheet after spreadsheet, budget after budget, that make me miss the field.
Then I remember all the bug bites, the illnesses, the lacerations, the bruises, the close calls with wildlife, and suddenly my office chair feels a bit more comfortable
Creative models like this are 100% necessary for conservation orgs. Philanthropy & gov grants are no longer reliable revenue sources for vital work (if they ever were), & there are so many opportunities to leverage broader economic forces to sustain/grow operational capacity thru mission fulfillment
Giving the Delmarva a blue rep is so funny to me
This was absolutely a blast to make haha
Great opportunity to get some native flowers in your life for folks in the #InlandNorthWest, even if you can't do a garden!
The sky faintly glows orange and yellow on the horizon, silhouetting distance mountains and storm clouds as it fades into a dark blue above. A crescent moon is visible in the top right. The foreground is dark but visible grassland dotted with trees and shrubs. Photograph taken in southeastern Madagascar.
I will be chasing the peace captured in this photo for the rest of my life, I think.

if you think about it, the sky seized the means of production of snow to wage economic war on the capitalist grocery stores. We need to stop the weather until we can figure out what the hell is going on
Would love to see a substantial chunk also go to environmental projects aimed at remediation/restoration from the outsized effects wealthy folks have on ecosystems in the state, especially from their transportation and purchasing habits.
Transplant of nearly 7 years from Alabama and I am NEVER looking back (heartbreakingly)
The red foxes are getting out of hand in Pullman
So many likely hires snuffed before they could join too! I have multiple friends that were shoe-ins for fed positions they've been working towards throughout their graduate degrees that found themselves cut loose and left adrift
Impossibly steep cliffs of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison tower above the Gunnison River
Despite the horrors, water continues to cut. Rock by rock. Grain by grain. The river persists and canyon grows. In times like these, nature inspires perseverance.

I love iNaturalist, but it's always so disheartening to upload an observation of a charismatic species & get a bunch of IDs while my arthropod & plant observations languish.
I don't need 5 people confirming that yes, that is indeed an elephant. I need 1 person to tell me what this weird bug is!
These foggers are usually effective for targets within 30ft. There is 0 expectation that they are used within inches of the target. Getting hit this close by this much liquid triggers vomiting and horrific respiratory responses. Not exaggerating when I say this could legitimately kill someone
Expanding on this: these canisters are designed as "foggers," where the goal is to create a wall of deterrent btwn the user & threat. Think abt a charging bear that you are unlikely to hit w/ a narrow stream of spray. This means the chem have to be much much more potent to stay effective as a "mist"

Guessing this is much stronger than regular pepper spray as well. These chemicals are designed to functionally put people (and animals) into a flight or freeze mode instantaneously. You go from normal to full disorientation and pain within milliseconds. Torture is inadequate to describe this

the mark of a true nature enjoyer is passionately, arbitrarily disliking species, esp by having low tolerance for annoyance. for ex, if an animal is too loud or behaves in a manner I feel is stupid, it is marked for death (being the focus of anecdotes about disliking animals for the rest of my life)
