Wes Moore doesnβt think Baltimore needs a new bus depot. Is this what you meant by βLeave no one behindβ @iamwesmoore.bsky.social?
At the park today I heard a parent explaining to their kids why it wasnβt safe for them to bike there alone. Aggressive drivers in Baltimore take dozens of lives each year, but they take so so much more.

Pictures from Purple Line work at Silver Spring last weekend. They were taking down the extra walkway on the giant flyover! Crews used the metro tracks for part of this.
The gas station probably produces 10 times the traffic and noise of residential with ground floor retail. Not to mention the giant curb cuts that really marginalize pedestrians in the area.
Fenton St, Silver Spring.
Gas station on Fenton st including large parking area and curb cuts interrupting the sidewalk.
This gas station is on prime Silver Spring land right near the Purple Line. Would be a great spot for midrise (single stair?) residential. Local urbanists should form a trust to acquire these kinds of lots.

Sidewalks near public spaces in Baltimore still look like this, two weeks after the storm. Itβs sad that these beautiful public spaces seem invisible to our leaders.
Both feel very nice, but also over built for light rail. The bright light and white walls seem similar too.
Does anyone else think these underground Eglinton stations look like the MUNI central subway in SF?

Huge shout out to everyone working hard on this at DOT. Could you let us know if there is a plan or timeline for clearing sidewalks, both adjacent to city property or where private owners didnβt clear?
Path at bus stop.
We made a small path here yesterday, so hopefully this helps at this stop. Although it seems to be flooded today π

This is what transit riders are dealing with in Baltimore, one week after that start of the storm. Most bus stops still donβt have a path to the sidewalk. Some progress from the city, but much more to be done.
If bus fares (cash) are used to provide new public services thatβs not a cash transfer, itβs a new public service. No subway rider would receive cash from the MTA. Thus not βliterallyβ a cash transfer. Although wouldnβt the bus fares go to the bus operating budget in this scenarioβ¦
Building a new subway line is not βliterally a cash transferβ to anyone. Itβs a public investment in new public servicesβ¦
Sadly still the case in Baltimore almost a week after the snow. Cars firsts and pedestrians last. So today I spent some time with other volunteers clearing bus stops and intersections!
Iβm glad the cleanup is continuing. Do you have a plan for getting sidewalks cleared?
Apparently the mayorβs office decided to suspend snow related citations due to difficult and icy conditions. This leaves pedestrians out in the cold with no recourse, and is a bit of slap in the face to everyone who did their job and cleared their sidewalk after the storm.

Just letting Baltimore folks know that the city has closed my sidewalk 311 requests βno cause for action ,Citation not required at this time.β It seems the city has given up on sidewalk clearing, both adjacent to private and city owned property.
I think this applies to basically every American cityβ¦
Sidewalk near American Fuel, Charles St Baltimore.
Snow clearing issues really show how big suburban land uses like gas stations erode the urban fabric. Instead of 10-20 homes and businesses each clearing a little sidewalk, one space hog takes the whole corner, and shirks their responsibility to clear the whole sidewalk.
