I'm also against gen AI replacing most work, but just emphasizing the weakness of argument when people appeal to water usage/environmental impact. All business has environmental impact, and most business that AI threatens to replace have more environmental impact than the data centers used to do it.

Stock photos produce actual value and human connection?

Not to mention the comparable water usage if the same work was being done by hand or traditional means. What is the environmental impact of a stock photo agency making thousands of stock photos vs an AI image gen fabricating them from a prompt? Probably a net positive for AI to produce this.
