That said, I doubt Trump knows what the word means. Or truly understands that for a war to stop, one side or the other (or both) decide that it is no longer worth fighting). I think the US will get there first as a democracy where politicians pay a price in elections for a bad economy.
The only thing the US could do (with conventional munitions) is blow the water (dams) and electrical systems in Iran up, and leave them with the specter of tens of millions dying of thirst and disease.

There's really only been one air campaign that came close to forcing a regime into unconditional surrender, and that was the US air and sea campaign against Japan in 1945. Millions would starve to death in 1946. However, Japan wasn't ready to give up until after the first atomic bomb.

There's actual research on this: support for wars always goes down over time, and never up. I've never seen support for a war start at such a low level, and it will only go down from here.

What's scary about this story is the surveillance it hints at. This trans woman had changed her name, legally, but chose not to change her gender marker. She was apparently flagged in the DMV system as trans and her license was invalidated under a law that supposedly only concerned gender markers.
