i'm confused: are you saying the wrinkle to consider is whether a very very rich man's chance to become even richer is more important than his fundamental sense of morals and principles, or are you saying the wrinkle to consider is whether he has any morals and principles in the first place?
every media property, big or small, that a lefty billionaire doesn't buy at this point is an unrecoverable loss. there should be a 50-state strategy for this!
la times, gone. washington post, gone. paramount, gone. disney, might as well be gone. warner, soon to be gone. twitter, gone. tiktok, soon gone. where the f*** are lefty billionaires?

there are much worse problems.
that said, as someone who loves writing reviews & has written thousands & is proud of that & thinks reviews are important, seeing culture coverage, critics & reviews constantly take it on the chin for the past decade--esp last few years--has been really fucking hard.
gimme three hours of andre on flute, meg on drums, spinderella on the decks and cyndi on the mic, and i'll be good. jack will be in an all-analog booth on the side of the stage recording their set direct to lacquer discs

One reason I regard the Reader + other regional pubs/crits as guiding lights is, as musickers, they hear what's going on locally before anyone else, which young/unestablished artist to consider, and the listing is the natural first piece of coverage, an introduction and an invitation. #LoveThisJob
Absolutely true about @dadastrain.bsky.social, and in fact I make a point of linking and x-reffing Piotr, Jim Macnie, and a couple of others every single week. Itβs the same idea as having six or more listings writers and editors at Time Outβ¦ no one can know or do it all alone.
a) yes!!!
b) but the attempt to blame the decline of listings on poptimism is weird and waaaay off
c) there are others, in addition to the amazing @nightafternight.bsky.social, doing the crucial work of keeping listings culture alive in nyc. see, for example, the amazing @dadastrain.bsky.social

do not trade that man. use a four-man outfield if you have to!
Dearest Darlings,
I used to be over there. Now I am here.
there are *six* people on the court whose entire job is making sure neither of these men will have to walk a few feet or bend over to pick up a tennis ball. but they can't find anyone to carry their bags?
still fascinated by this weird quirk of professional tennis as i watch alcaraz and sinner try to navigate corridors and doorways with heavy, oversized bags hanging from both of their shoulders on their way to centre court
(the only bagel that comes close to poppy seed is onion, do not fight me on this, you will lose)
i am extremely late on this but i have just learned that mamdani is a POPPY SEED GUY. i am henceforth doubling my donations to him. we need this, new york!!!
(but the fuck does he mean he has his orange juice "on the side"? does he think other people pour their OJ on their bagel???)
pouring one out tonite for one for one of the kindest hearts to ever bless the new jersey music scene -- and one of its most adventurous souls and ferocious voices. you were a force for good in the world, tim cronin πππ
