Author: Homelands, Expecting. Journalist: The Guardian. Restaurant critic: The Times Scotland. Used to be a person whose profile said only 'don't conclude anything without cheese'. Still am, on the inside.

Migration is part of what makes this country great.
We're not an island of strangers - we're an island of neighbours.
The Green Party will always support fair & managed migration.
So smooth, so round, so creamy.
a white orb covered in black speckles and spots rests on a dark sofa cushion. the left side is a dalmatianβs face, tucked in toward her haunches with her thin tail wrapped up to hug her face. she is looking at the camera with one sleepy brown eye.
This is Koyuki. Please do not disturb her. She's in ice cream scoop mode right now. Needs to focus. 12/10 (IG: fuji_bull)

This book is a beacon. Beautiful writing and thinking from @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social at the height of her powers. I'm reviewing it for @writersmosaic.bsky.social and it's a stunner.
It's publication day! (I signed 240 of these yesterday, before an event with the inimitable Jeff Chang, at San Francisco's Booksmith at the Internet Archive).

Really concerned to hear the Defence Secretary refuse to rule out UK's involvement in future strikes on Iran.
Iraq lessons must be learned.
Further escalation in the Middle East makes us all less safe.
Starmer must rule out UK involvement immediately.
A mug depicting KC Green's This Is Fine dog comic, but tragically faded
I've had my This Is Fine mug so long that the dog has become a ghost and all that remain are flames
While we sit around to find out how bad exactly it all is, a bit of cheer: the best baguette of Paris competition was won by a Sri Lankan who appears to have started as a dish washer in restaurants and eventually trained as a Boulanger.

Everything seems awful and chaotic and powerless, so I am left to do what I can only do: share some beauty with the world. I have no wise words or platitudes, but I do have a camera and empathy. A shot from my first global geomagnetic storm (2024) π

When you think about it for more than 5 seconds, it really is both insane and outrageous that *HILLARY CLINTON* - a woman who apparently has never met with nor corresponded with Jeffrey Epstein was one of the first people deposed.

Successive interviews by Nick Robinson this morning perfectly sum up the BBC:
with Zack Polanski: sneering, aggressive, constantly interrupting.
with David Bull, Reform's Chairman: polite, nodding along, barely any interruptions.
Amazing. Will share the link when it's up so you can listen too.
Now there is hope! It's no longer a choice between grim and grimmer. We can vote for who we want and win. Anywhere.
It's just one constituency, but the Green victory in Gorton and Denton is an electric shock to our political system.
BREAKING: We're suing Kansas for a law that invalidates transgender people's updated driver's licenses and authorizes anyone to sue anyone they suspect of being trans for using the "wrong" bathroom.
What a great title!
Omg I studied this at uni alongside Mary: A Fiction by Mary Wollstonecraft if I remember rightly. Both completely reset my consciousness too. Beautiful cover this!
Loving that the party whose slogan is βFamily. Community. Countryβ are now claiming that they lost because of βfamily votingβ.
A win for hope. A no to racism. So lovely to wake up to good news. #Greens
Poor Matt Goodwin. All he ever wanted was to be a hard working MP/academic/tv presenter/commentator/writer/pollster/wealth adviser/womenβs health guru and you all ripped that away from him. A shame
The Gorton and Denton result is fantastic for several reasons, but easily the funniest one is that the Tories got so few votes that they LOST THEIR DEPOSIT.
In a battle between hope and hate, hope won out.
Why voters rejected the hateful politics of Reform and instead embraced the "Green Menace" in Gorton and Denton

Wow. Landmark result.
That's beautifully put. Agree!
My @theguardian.com TV review of @bbciplayer.bsky.social LS Lowry: The Unheard Tapes. Extraordinary performances from Ian McKellan and Annabel Smith. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...
The acting was extraordinary wasn't it? I would have loved a full hour of it tbh. No idea if there was lots left on the cutting room floor...
