NEW STUDY: βThanks to the influence of the road lobby, the harms of driving are underestimated & overlooked, while measures that make walking, cycling, & public transport the easiest option are viewed with suspicion. Policy responses to reducing population-level drivingβ¦can create positive change.β
Recent weeks show our reliance on cars, but cycling can help. Most 2024 journeys were under 5 miles, ideal for cycling. Swapping short car trips saves Β£, pollution & fossil fuel use. Safer roads matter, which is why backing #MyRideOurRight helps everyone.

This article cites my research indicating "peak car" and increasing demand for non-auto travel. Local travellers want better sidewalks, crosswalks and bikeway. See my "Active Transportation Investment Talking Points" (www.vtpi.org/CRD_AT_TP.pdf )

Gas is expensive. Biking and transit don't surge price you. They're consistent, affordable, and they work. For a lot of people, that's not a lifestyle choice. Options matter.

Imagine all the cool, fast trains we could have with the billions we spend on bombs.
i don't know that it's sustainable, but i think saving $5500 is pretty fuckin sustainable. not an insignificant amount towards potentially putting some one payroll or 5 months of my own rent. i am willing to find out.

ββ¦disabled people are actually less likely to drive than nondisabled people and more likely to get around by walking and rolling and taking transit. Car-heavy cities are also disproportionately dangerous for disabled folksβ¦β

One thing I've been pondering for a while is how a relatively tiny number of assholes can disrupt an otherwise positive and peaceful system that benefits large groups of people. You see it replicated over & over again at different scales.
