Going back to my encyclopedia set when I need to look something up from now on⦠Decided not to order this despite the promise of same day delivery and 1600+ reviews.

I don't want to jinx anybody's health, but Edgar Morin is still with us at 104.
When I lived in Paris in 2007-08, it was in the 15th just south of the Tour Montparnasse. I love that this article gives space to the woman concerned for the pigeons. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/23/w...

Georges Didi-Huberman began his lecture by returning to his disagreement with Daniel Arasseβs concept of the detail.

I've been thinking of doing this since Nikole Hannah-Jones was denied tenure and then that was extended to freezing tenure (to target racialized and minoritized scholars). The forced public presentation of syllabi (to police content) & spying on profs was all latent in that first act.
What level of empty gesture is it to return a diploma to a corrupt university? Looking at you UNC.

Decision made by the tickets for Bonitzer's Maigret et la mort amoreux being sold out. Nice to see he's still making new films that look exciting.
Oh dang, now needing to decide whether I attend Georges Didi-Huberman's seminar at INHA or head to the Cinémathèque for the Pascal Bonitzer retrospective. (I know Didi's seminars post on YouTube but it's fun to attend...)
Three panel comic. Panel 1: baby monkeys in overalls jumping on a bed, having fun. Panel 2: one of the monkeys falls over the edge of the bed, reaching out as he falls. Panel 3: one of the other monkeys, now looking super buff and badass, grabs him by the arm to save him heroically. βMonkey Stronger Together.β

We need more excuses to show ZdC. This ended up being the cinematic equivalent of a viking funeral: the last feasible run of a very well loved print.
I cannot tell you (though I will try) how much fun this was and how grateful I am to have been invited to program and talk about ZΓ©ro de conduite! Thanks to all who attended, especially the crew @mediaarchives-uoft.bsky.social for everything you do.
Ozu's Good Morning (1959)
If you do, let me know, it would be great to catch up! I want to hear all about birds!
In a few weeks, if you're in Toronto, stop on by... This is different from the other two talks I've given at U of T this year on stray thinking...
