I don’t have the answer, but I’m curious: Do women’s groups help, or do they limit us? At what point do we stop isolating ourselves and start pulling everyone into the conversation? Because equity isn’t just a women’s issue—it’s everyone’s. Right?
What are we really talking about in these spaces? Serious issues or just venting about deadlines and Bravo shows? Is this solidarity or self-segregation?
I recently joined a WhatsApp group called ‘Women in Comms,’ and I’m conflicted. Are these spaces empowering, or are they just echo chambers? We need to talk about equity, fair pay, and representation—but don’t we also need sponsors from the other side? Allies who can advocate where we can’t?
I’m not saying the Xodus is inevitable, but when my group chat for organizing toddler playdates started sharing BlueSky handles, I knew Twitter had a serious problem. If the moms are jumping ship, the ship might already be sunk
What if, instead of looking to leaders who keep kicking the can down the road, we demand more, now? What if we start calling out the indifference w/the same intensity that the planet’s calling out for help? Climate isn’t a side issue anymore—it’s the main stage & ignoring it is no longer an option.
Wildfires (in NJ?!), floods, disappearing coastlines—these aren’t anomalies; they’re the new reality. What’s harder to face is that these crises are still being met with a frustratingly familiar response: empty promises, delayed policies, ignorance and a lack of real accountability.
We’re past the point of waiting for some distant solution to ‘fix’ the climate crisis. The effects are here, now, and they’re only getting worse.
