As Alison says, do sign up for the intermediate Scottish Family History course if you're going to be in the Glasgow area in early May. Look forward to seeing you there.

A black and white photograph of an elaborate Victorian pub building from the outside, part of an ornate 3-storey corner tenement block. Older, less salubrious tenements can be seen adjacent. The building is a "gushet", a triangular block on the corner of a triangular junction. 1927. Edinburgh and Scottish Collection, Edinburgh City Libraries.
OS 1893 Town Plan of Edinburgh, centred on the Pleasance and the pub at number 165, showing lots of streets running off in different directions in a densely populated part of the city. Reproduced with the permission of the National Library of Scotland
Pubs we never knew. Macpherson's at 165 Pleasance in 1927 shortly before demolition in a slum clearance scheme. Allegedly one of the finest the southside ever knew. The windows advertise Disher's legendary 10 Guinea Ale in bottles, at 11.2% ABV it was quite the tipple and also came in pints
18 maternal cousins, but zero paternal cousins as my dad was an only child.
My kids are like you with 2 on each side.

Would definitely love the chance to hear this rather fabulous sounding but sold talk on Glasgow cinemas @glasgowheritage.bsky.social Any chance of another date being added?
Fabulous pictures.
I'm a very happy genealogist. Picked up Alex Wood's Scottish Bastards first and it's a great read with, of course, fantastic research.
Look forward to learning more about this #oneplacestudy which is very close to my doorstep.
Picture of 5 books of varying themes related to social history.

Between Christmas & birthday, Iโve been very lucky to receive quite a few books off my wish list. One or two other gifts from my family seem to have a theme to them tooโฆ ๐
Thanks Alison.
Thanks Jane.
Thanks Rowena
Thanks Claire.
Thank you Marian
Thanks Ciara.
Thanks Lorna. I'm having a very lovely afternoon in one of my happy places - the research room of the Glasgow & West of Scotland FHS. @gwsfhs.org.uk I think we should all be carried when it snows!! ๐

Birthday celebrations for me today. Iโm reliably informed there was serious snow on the ground on the day that I was born. While there is substantial snow in the north of Scotland today, not so much around the central belt, despite the weather warnings. This is my earliest photo I have as a baby.
Happy birthday Dave.

Happy New Year! It was the last day of the festive holidays in Scotland yesterday. I enjoyed a walk in the Ayrshire sunshine & discovered a little bit of industrial history that employed some smoke & mirrors style deception. #Genealogy #History www.facebook.com/share/p/1DxD...
