I am a PTSD survivor. I'll never tell anyone how to deal with their mental challenges, but diving into flow arts gave me something to go on. Maybe diving into cosplay can help distract your brain enough to help with depression. It isn't a cure, but might be a helper. Hugs!
FWIW, I am a flow arts performer, but I didn't get into them until I was 45yo. I am 55yo now, and after two years of losing 75lbs, I did my first burlesque act last October, to celebrate getting back to my 18yo clothes sizes. Never let anything stop you!
Go for it! If it makes you happy, do it! Don't let your inner voices keep you from something you love.
