I would like to be present when government lawyers tell a 78-year-old judge “we can’t follow your order because the computer won’t let us.” That’s always fun.

I swear there are slime moulds with better long time resource management policies than the US auto industry.

The Trump administration specifically avoided emergency injunctive relief orders from judges by assuring them that refunds would be “automatic” if they were ever necessary. They lied. To judges.

Where’s our money, Trump? Where our money, you lying bitch?

That's maybe less bad? Though I guess we're worried the actual delay is because the money already Went Away...

From the judge's point of view isn't that going to be a them problem? It barely rises above the level of "we don't wanna".

I think it reveals the main goal of the c-suite in pursuing genAI is to increase labor precarity. The ability to fire untold numbers of workers because of AI, even if the AI isn't working, is enough.

it's that recurrent moment again where awful people are replaced by different awful people and yet I'm still sort of glad to see the original awful people gone

Not sure how many times we have to do this, but if a Young Tech Prodigy appears with this hair, you need to shut them down asap

“MAGA’s fundamental shared quality is a total lack of theory of mind for other people” is a theory that keeps getting validated by reality - look at almost every decision they’ve made in the war with Iran, and how they seem constantly surprised by the unanticipated actions of other parties.

“Well, it seems that the problem with capitalism is that eventually you may need a socialist to come in, correct previous under-budgeting, account for current service levels as well as expected growth," Mamdani continued, in reference to Eric Adams' deceptive bookkeeping.

Yeah I hear it all the time "why are you in your 30s at a concert??" "Why are adult women drawing fan art!" Like of course you fear aging you think that your soul needs to die after your 20s when you still have your WHOLE DANG LIFE

Iran: look, it's simple. We literally just paint the silhouette of a plane on the ground. We literally just nail together some boxes in the shape of a tank. We literally just pull looney tunes shit. Their AI will make them spend $100 million to destroy $5 of arts and crafts.

the US: grok is this

RFK Jr: Families should make dinner together and that will cure the spiritual crisis in the U.S.

Mom: I would but I have to work two jobs to afford housing.

RFK Jr: I only have one “job” and I’m a millionaire, what’s your problem lazy daisy? I’ve made tens of meals for my kids over decades!

either they’re actually so wildly incompetent they genuinely never thought about defense against Iranian Shaheds or (more likely) Hegseth et al are lying about why they’re screwing this particular operation up so bad.

Neither option is good

Names of Athenian Triremes: Investigating Group Cohesiveness and Social Identity in the Athenian Navy of the 4th Century BC - Journal of Maritime Archaeology The set of inscriptions known as the Naval Inventories of Athens (IG II2 1604–IG II2 1632) provide a wealth of information regarding the state of the Athenian navy in the fourth century BC. The inscri...

I guess I didn’t wake up thinking I needed to know the names of the 279 named triremes ⛵️in the 4th century BCE Athenian navy, but it appears we all do. link.springer.com/article/10.1... I do like that 3.58% had animal names like Λεοντῆ (lion skin) and Λέαινα (lioness). Greek epigraphy is fun! 🪦

We should reckon with the idea that Americans are so fucking dumb that we booted out the party that saved the country after Covid and created the best economic recovery in the world in favor of a con man who said he would use racism and magic to make everything cheaper and jobs plentiful.

One of the reasons I distrust GenAI is that I've been doing tech support in one form or another for 35+ years, and I've seen every way that tech can be misused, break, or behave outside of expectations; GenAI ticks every 'uh-oh' box for me.

quite apart from Kemi Badenoch's dismal performance on BBC Breakfast, minimising the work of the RAF, she spoke of Labour 'not being built' for conflict because they came into power to do things like 'breakfast clubs' in such a disparaging way, like feeding kids is a joke ambition

they knew they could get away with it because they practiced all those times on the “narco-terrorist” boats, where they also killed the survivors, and nobody sent them to The Hague about it so they are running completely unchecked right now with full use of the arsenal. I do not know how this ends

One of the things that I think will puzzle future historians is how a man who inspired such fanatical cult-like loyalty also made no secret of the fact of his utter contempt for his fans and his total indifference to what happened to them.
