I think since Animal Crossing is more mainstream, it's easier to compare it. Pokopia is basically Dragon Quest Builders 2 with Pokemon.
It has some (tedious early on) Minecraft elements, and you build out habitats for Pokemon and slowly gain more skills.
It's a lot less verbose an annoying than AC.
Perks of still masking on any form of transit:

Setting up your own local storage is great and all, but that's just a new set of tech chores- software/firmware updates, HDD health checks, network config, ingress, etc... And if that's something you vibe with, go for it, but if not I'd just go with Proton's suite for cloud storage at this point.
