The Highest Rates of Gun Homicides Are in Rural Counties Despite media attention on gun violence in large American cities, new analysis of CDC data shows that rural counties persistently have some of the highest rates of gun violence in the country.

Gun violence, despite what some would have you believe, is NOT an issue ONLY in Democratic led areas or states. But it is an existential public health crisis that we as a nation MUST address.

I was honored and humbled to participate in an audience with and meet Pope Leo XIV. We had a wonderful conversation about Chicago, service and of course the White Sox. Plus I was able to give him gifts from some amazing businesses and groups from the 17th District.

When I was a young seminarian at Quigley South, I never imagined that one day I would have the opportunity to meet the Pope. Yet life has a way of reminding us how faith, service, and perseverance can open doors we never thought possible.

As National Chair of the Council of State Governments, I’ve been blessed to experience some incredible moments—most recently, a trade and cultural mission to Italy that deepened my appreciation for global partnership, leadership, and faith in action.

A statesman in the truest sense of the word, he lived by the belief that those who were his political opponents were not his enemy.

I will miss my friend, but know that his legacy lives on in all of us he mentored and showed us what public service could be.

Rest well my friend!!!

He will be remembered as a leader who genuinely cared about the people of Illinois and who approached public service with integrity, humility, and a commitment to doing what was right for the state rather than what was politically expedient.

Illinois and the nation has lost a giant with the passing of former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar.

Governor Edgar's legacy extends beyond his political achievements.
