I'm from Appalachia and also have a lot of LGBTQ+ and ND representation in my stuff.
Most of my work that is set there, though, is in the form of short stories. I would love to connect! I have a lot of magical realism, weird west, and fantasy with steampunk or post-apocalyptic vibes.

It had been a great city once, all of these skeletons below them. Most of it was little more than rubble now. Dusty, sandy walls, stones bleached white by the sun, and the signs of old, cracked and crumbled roads interweaving between all of it in a grid like a spider's web. She could make out a few craters too, hollow circles in the ground where bombs had leveled everything in their immediate vicinity. In some of those craters, people had built themselves little homes from the materials around them, but those homes had been long, long since abandoned now, too. No human lived in the cities now. It was a sad sight, though the water in Cass's eyes was due to the wind and the dust instead of grief for what had happened to the people here, many generations ago now. She was more concerned for those currently living.

There is Rustrock and Lava Town, and there is nothing and no one else. Not for many miles, unless you consider the countless ruins and the deadly and diseased creatures that infest them, or the occasional peddler coming to deliver tales of distant civilizations. But here and now, there is only Rustrock and Lava Town. It would be best if they got along. They do not. The Queen, the active volcano that Lava Town takes its nickname from, looks out over all of them. The seasons are harsh. Cass may not have been born in Rustrock, but her loyalty to it is absolute. If she can prove herself by helping the struggling town survive, perhaps she can even earn the reputation that the rumors of her origin give her. But Lava Town's flock of flying marauders seem to be there to thwart Rustrock at every turn, and her secret connection to their leader only complicates things. When mysterious strangers from the north turn up, however, it may be a grand opportunity or an omen of worse things to come.

Behind Cass and Anya, Ferran was half-sprawled in the narrow back seat, and if Anya's expression showed her displeasure, his somehow showed a full spectrum of sadness, anger, and a resigned acceptance of how dreadful things were, all flashing through his face within a few moments' time. It could not be said that his not talking limited his communication or expressiveness – Ferran had been perpetually like a lightning strike for as long as Cass had known him, which was nearly their entire lives.
