"Portland Metro Chamber President and CEO Andrew Hoan is another vocal skeptic of the PFA tax. Last year, he told Willamette Week that there were "years of clear and irrefutable data [indicating the tax] is having an impact on our highly mobile middle class and higher-income earners who are choosing to leave."

Hoan maintains his concerns, despite the new county data. In a March 5 comment, Hoan told the Mercury that "it is no accident that Multnomah County is deep in economic recession while surrounding counties like Clark County are seeing economic success it is our policy choices." He pointed to Preschool for All, as well as Metro's Supportive Housing Services marginal income tax, as examples of the policy choices he believes have caused wealthy people to leave the Portland metro area. The Metro Chamber uses IRS data, which isn't as up-to-date as county tax return statistics, to support their conclusions."

I personally am more concerned about my public dollars helping pay 45% of Andrew Hoan's $333,000 salary through Clean & Safe. PERSONALLY.

I really hate anti-trans politicians, and I especially hate it because it was a culture war issue where we were clearly winning and then a bunch of nominally liberal people at the Times and the Atlantic decided to reverse that and they did.

"Note: The city says forced removal from shelter sites are not legally considered evictions because guests are not tenants and the individual units are not considered a home in legal terms. For the purposes of brevity and clarity KATU will continue using the term. The Cambridge English dictionary defines an eviction as "the action of forcing someone to move out of a property." The city refers to these as "exits.""

Any elected leader who thinks ICE in the era of Donald Trump can be fixed with body cameras and "more training" is deeply unserious, lacks commitment to civil and human rights, and should be voted out of office.

In the week since Mayor Wilson began enforcing the public camping ban, we are seeing MORE tents in East Portland. Those folks are just being swept into my district.

I told the mayor that this is what would happen and asked him to bring extra resources to East PDX to meet the displaced. He did not.

Not sure whose fault it is primarily that most people don't seem to know that the president is basically a manager whose job is to carry out the will of Congress, and not The Country's Boss

Bill to require big tech to pay Oregon newsrooms advances with fewer legal concerns The proposed policy has undergone significant changes to address legal concerns.

Oregon moves one step closer to passing one of the most substantive local news funding bills in the country, requiring Google and Meta pay for news content they’ve used for free to grow their enormous profits while newsrooms shutter from lost revenue

Are you β€˜jonesing to fire less lethal rounds’ and β€˜launch gas canisters’? Oregon State Police SWAT email misses mark Oregon State Police tried to conceal this controversial SWAT recruitment email when The Oregonian/OregonLive requested it. Now state police are distancing themselves from it.

Great work from @maxbernstein.bsky.social and the Oregonian fighting to get a recruiting email from the state police SWAT team that repeatedly glorified violence.

Right-wing Idaho activist targets Republican legislator with calls for ICE raids β€’ Oregon Capital Chronicle Donald Trump’s second term was only in its second day when Ryan Spoon turned the force of the federal government against a political enemy.

β€œBut Spoon’s tactics represented a new avenue of attack. For farm owners, it raises the possibility that speaking out β€” or running for office or backing the wrong bill β€” could trigger a political enemy to try to call down an ICE raid.”

Council President vote new recap:

Pretty much everyone voting for Avalos has made an impassioned speech about why she will be an even leader.

So far, I've not really heard anything impassioned about Clark. This is Old Guard bullshit.
