Thereβs a history podcast I listened to where they were like the Schlieffen plan should have been defeat the Russians in the east, then the French (and only the French).
Definitely the boldest take I had seen on it
If contained to above βnormal groupβ of states than there is an argument that the only big changes to the status quo are that - in line with the below article - itβs more viewable and noticeable due to modern recording/social media.

IMO this includes βbombingβ via a host of drones/long-range fires that make it easier for more states to do this
The interesting question is where will such bombing/attacks occur? Or does it stay contained to the usual collection MENA/sub-Saharan African/SE Asia states
Lmao
βYou have full up, system-level prototypes about to be delivered, but the Army can grab defeat from the jaws of victoryβ

I donβt know 100% for sure tbh. Not my area of expertise. But I seem to recall it was more we need an unbombed target to see what it doesβ¦and Tokyo was not that
Taking that statement with a grain of salt, there was a Marine Corps article once that argued in pursuit of manuever warfare you had to be careful not to too paralyze an enemy (specifically by knocking out C2), because then you donβt have a Chain of Command to give the surrender order
Remember though - the American way of war definitely doesnβt rely on superior firepower or anything like that
RUSIs photo editor savage lmao
Iβll admit in 2017 the ADA branch CPT who pitched to us was like weβre gonna be very important soon
And I (internally) went, absolutely correct. However, still lame. Give me a tank
Mmm. That was supposed to go under your we need new discourse post
Yay we invaded France in 1943, oh fuck weβre back in a status war of position, barely holding on to our foothold because the Britβs donβt have the manpower and the U.S. hasnβt completed mobilization
The British strategy of slow engagement of the Germans from North Africa to Sicily to Italy and then France in WWII was correct.
Ignoring the complete lack of resources to do it, a cross channel invasion in 43 while likely getting ashoreβ¦would have whatβ¦got stuck in western France for a year?
Not to mention how long can anyone hold out against lots of people being opposed to something
That moral courage Clausewitz always talks about
You could even see a historical pattern of
A) this has a historical logic and pattern
B) Trump loves acting the deal maker and bringing people together. If heβs getting a call from every MENA country to end the war and reach a dealβ¦thatβs pretty good deal making.
Mers-el-Kabir 1940 and the larger Operation Catapult. Justified? Smart?
Thin line between bold audacious manuever and stupid, useless foolishness
I wonder how much of this is an attempt to negotiate
I.e - By striking states attempting to stay out of this, Iran seeks to get them to put pressure on the U.S. to come to the negotiating table. Iran assuming (likely correctly) it lacks the ability to directly force that negotiation
I wasnβt able to participate as fully as I wanted - but I think War on the Rocks had a really cool idea of with their online group read along and discussion that they did for Allure back inβ¦2020ish?
Itβs all attrition in the end
And how did those infiltration win WWI for the Germans exactly?
