Rewatching #TheHandmaidsTale and realizing itβs basically like eating chips. I canβt have just one, I have to keep watching until I physically canβt of absolutely need to stop. Thatβs how good it is.

A truly gorgeous story of becoming one's true self, Stein brings readers along on her journey of self-discovery and expression.
So grateful to #AbbyChavaStein for sharing her story.

That's a wrap for April's #MCBC pick, #WacoRising.
This was a pretty quick read for me, as the writing flowed well and the story was engrossing.
Must say I did read the part about "Pastor Pace" with squinty eyes though. Yikes.

Just wrapped up this month's #MorbidlyCuriousBookClub pick, #GoryDetails.
A delightful dive into the "dark side of science", this is worth a read if you're interested in the oddities, morbid curiosities, and lesser known and discussed phenomena of our universe.

My main focus is nonfiction, but the occasional fiction pick may be thrown in - mainly picks from book clubs.

This is one of those books that altered my brain chemistry.
Diving into the decades leading up to the Challenger disaster then covering its aftermath in clear yet respectful detail, Higginbotham gives an amazingly detailed account of a quite complex topic.

BRB - just hyperventilating over here....

Right, I need this in my wardrobe
True to style, Higginbotham writing style is accessible and informative, drawing on extensive research.
Midnight in Chernobyl was one of those brain chemistry-altering reads for me, so Challenger was a natural choice.

We all understand the assignment today, right?
Oh. This one is definitely on my list.
Seems legit....
We don't want to be a nation of underachieving Americans.
This story can't be repeated enough. The GOP is lined up behind the guy who is so incompetent that his quasi-gov't agency did this. They're confirming his highly questionable nominees & hurting the American people.
And "accidentally"? It was stupidity, not accident. www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...
Her courage shines through as she recounts the difficulties and horrors of her past and the work she is doing in her present on not only herself but the system that enabled the circus that surrounded and engulfed her family.

Tackling issues like child abuse and neglect, sexual harassment, trauma, and cult-like groups and behavior, Franke tells her story as only she can.
The cover of The House of My Mother by Shari Franke with six stars and words Book Review: 6/5
As someone who has been fascinated by this story as itβs broken and progressed, reading the story of someone who lived it was refreshing and felt like a glimpse that could provide the only true understanding of what actually happened.
Couldn't agree more!
I know you're not supposed to judge books by covers, but if your cover includes a cat I'm about 15% more likely to give it a shot.

As a massive fan of the movie (it was filmed about 20 minutes from my hometown) I was excited to read this (30 years later, but whoβs counting?...)
This was a quick and well-written read. Kaysen set the scene perfectly, giving solid background and explanation throughout.

Intertwined with these stories are also the stories of the women who loved and married these men, the struggles they faced as immigrants, and the journeys their lives took over nearly thirty years.
Cinema Love follows the stories of closeted men who frequented the Workersβ Cinema - a run-down old movie theater where gay men cruised for love near Fuzhou.
Tang brings beautiful and flawed characters to life, building and weaving their stories - from rural Fuzhou to New Yorkβs Chinatown - poetically and with raw detail.
