As a huge baseball fan, I love baseball movies & books. “The Natural” will always be one of my favorite films. Finally got around to reading Malamud’s novel, which was a great read. Although the book and film may diverge in various ways, they both capture the beauty and heartbreak of the game. 💙📚

First completed book of 2026. “Attending” by Dr. Ronald Epstein. I started my PhD in Educational Leadership this fall with an eye to exploring the intersection of theatre, the medical humanities, and higher education. A fascinating and insightful read! 📚💙

I always found his work to be inspiring, clever, mischievous, and playful. The way he was able to turn big philosophical and political ideas into palpable and dramatic stories - intimate and epic, moving and laugh-inducing - never ceased to amaze me. RIP Sir Tom.

Today marks the first anniversary of my book getting published! It was a labor of love and one of my proudest achievements (especially since it was my first foray). If you’re interested in theatrical farce, or some ‘serious laughter’, please check out the book!💙📚

My seminar paper looked at “Titus Andronicus” and two contemporary offshoots, Taylor Mac’s “Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus”, and Canadian playwright Colleen Murphy’s “The Society for the Destitute Presents Titus Bouffonius.” Love me some Bouffon clowns.

Thank you to the @saaupdates.bsky.social for a wonderful conference! Was part of a seminar on “Early Modern Horror”, audited an inspiring selection of seminars and panels, connected with colleagues, and took home some 📖 Feeling re-invigorated!

Dawn Raids by Oscar Kightley is the first play from NZ I’ve ever read. Written in 1997, and set in the ‘70s, its contemporary relevance is striking; especially given the recent and scary EOs surrounding immigrants and deportations here in the USA. This is theatre speaking a global language.

Remains one of my favourite plays (and directorial experiences). Looking forward to revisiting and writing about it for the Shakespeare Association of America Conference in Boston! 📚💙

I was lucky enough to see the original production at Steppenwolf. A brilliantly executed ‘micro’ look at ‘macro’ politics. It left a mark on me. I leave it here in response to today.

This semester I’ve stepped in as the Interim Chair of my theatre department, while my buddy is on sabbatical. Looking for some bon mots, I picked up this book, and not only does Myers offer wonderful advice and perspective, but he does it with brevity and nuance. 💙📚

I adore Jocelyn Bioh’s playwriting voice. An important contemporary writer, she recently made her Broadway debut with Jaja’s African Hair Braiding. 💙📚

One of those books that crosses (defies?) genres and is filled with deliciously witty prose and imagination. Jasper Fforde’s hilarious book (and the Thursday Next series) continue to linger many years after I was first introduced to it.

First in an excellent thriller/crime procedural series featuring FBI profiler, Caitlin Hendrix. Fourth book in the UNSUB series was just released.

Starting a little Bluesky project for the new year: Posting pics of plays and other books that resonate, challenge, entertain, and/or simply tickle my fancy. Classical and Contemporary. Wide range of genres and writers. Up first, a hilarious play with Shakespearean ties (to one of my faves)!

I hope that changes - the Donmar seems an ideal place for an ‘immersive’ show like Natasha. It’s a great musical. I was surprised to read it’s only making its UK premiere now!

Oslo helped me celebrate my 49th with a fun (though slightly chilly) romp on the OU campus!

As we stumble along…into the blue…
