For ICE it's a fourfold increase, much of it for military-style weapons. A heavily armed secret police force. 1/

shit gets waaaay more complicated & expensive when people lose their housing — especially if they’re unable to avoid the eviction filing in the courts, even more if there’s an unlawful detainer filed because that is like a scarlet letter when trying to get housing again

For The New York Times to choose to publish Jesse Singal today, of all times, is a choice to attack trans people, to make them even more vulnerable while they are already under attack. It is an appalling abdication of the Times’s journalistic duties.
After considerable soul-searching, I feel compelled to withdraw from the BAFTA emerging talent judging panel. The organisation's handling of the unfortunate Tourette's N-Word incident last night at the awards was utterly unforgivable. I cannot and will not contribute my time energy and expertise to an organisation that has repeatedly failed to safeguard the dignity of its Black guests, members and the Black creative community. This is particularly unfortunate given that this year's cohort boasts some incredible Black talent, especially one of my favourite shows of 2025 "Just Act Normal". However, when an organisation like BAFTA, with its own long history of systemic racism, refuses to acknowledge the harm inflicted on both the Black and disabled communities and offer an appropriate apology, remaining involved would be tantamount to condoning its behaviour. I hope BAFTA leadership comprehend the damage they and the BBC have caused and take the necessary steps to ensure their production staff are inclusive enough to prevent such an issue in the future. Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

Listening to the Attorney General of our country sitting as a witness in an Oversight hearing screech, scream and call sitting Representatives “that woman,” and refer to a Representative who is questioning her as “she” is truly a testament to how low Trump has brought all our institutions.
