Researching requires Ideas, which you generate by Exploring—and Exploring means running scenes with other players and NPCs, spinning drama out of rumors, making allies, and foiling your rivals.

Though Theses throw dramatic wrenches into play, that's the basic wheel that turns the game.

The preparatory phases set the stage for a season full of intrigue and drama. The latter three phases are FREE, which you generally spend:

—EXPLORING the Manor and socializing with other guests
—RESEARCHING your occult thesis and advancing your character arc

Was asked what my favorite mechanic was in Mooncroft Manor (www.backerkit.com/c/projects/c...) and I thought I'd talk about it here too!

Specifically: the way this game treats research and discovery as a source of social tension is extremely fun and really drives play.

I backed this and you should too! I am at least honest in my biases from helping playtest! Excellent structure of play and resolution, great for PBP or at the table, absolutely stellar for making a nuanced, complicated ambitious little freak and putting them in a situation. Check it out!
